I cant read anymore! can someone help me!

I have read heaps of stuff and now I am just starting to confuse myself. I have become a member of my wii downloads and they have given me a step by step installation guide on how to get HBC etc.. this is what they suggest:

Click Here For The Files Needed For Homebrew Channel and Backup Player For V4.0

    ************************************************

NOW WE HAVE OUR FILES CONTINUE ONTO STEP 1

    ************************************************

Step 1. Unzip The Files On Your PC

Step 1a.Open The Unzipped folders to where you find the following files and folders inside

Step 2. Take Your SD Card and Put It In The SD Reader In Your Computer

Go To MY COMPUTER > Right Click On SD Drive > Left Click On Format

Step 3. Choose File System FAT AT 16 Kilobytes

Step 4. Once Format Is Completed

Copy The Contents That Was Inside The SD Folder You Have Unzipped

    Over To The SD Card

    Instructions:
Your Wii must be connected to the internet, which can be done thru wii settings > internet connection

Step 5. Go to Data Management then choose Channels then the SD Tab

    Choose "Yes" to load boot.dol

You will then be at a screen with red, yellow, and white text.

Press "A" on the WiiMote and you will see a list beginning with WAD.

Step 6. Arrow down to DowngraderIOS35.dol (2nd from the bottom) and run it by pressing "A" on the WiiMote.

NOTE: It is at this point you must be connected to the internet.

Step 7. Choose downgrade IOS35 and then let it go, then choose exit (ignore the patchmii and dvdx)

You will then be back to the screen with red, yellow, and white text. (Push the"A" button on the wiimote)

Step 8. Go down and run Wad Manager 1.4 by pressing "A" on WiiMote.

Hit The "A" Button (till you end up with a list of files beginning with HBC.WAD)

Step 9. Arrow down to IOS35.wad.

    Hit The "A" Button

(till you end up with a list of files beginning with HBC.WAD)

Then press the HOME button on the wiimote
Which will bring you back to a screen with red yellow and white text
(Push the"A" button on the wiimote)

Step 10. Arrow down to BOOT2.DOL
Push the"A" button on the wiimote till your back to a list beginning with HBC.WAD

Step 11. Arrow down to CIOS-249.wadand press the + key on the wiimote
Push the"A" button on the wiimote till your back to a list beginning with HBC.WAD

Step 12. Arrow up to gameplayer.wad and press the + key on the wiimote
Press the"A" button on the wiimote till your back to a list beginning with HBC.WAD

NOTE: If you just want the gameplayer on your Wii you can stop here .

Step 13. Arrow up to HBC.wad and press the + key on the wiimote
Press the"A" button on the wiimote till your back to a list beginning with HBC.WAD

    Press "Home" to exit.

You will now unplug and replug in the power on your Wii to find that Backuplauncher and Homebrew Channel are installed and working.

I have then looked at your tutorials here: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...y-4-2-wii.html

and now I am really confused.. do i need to install cIOS? what is that!! then there is all this stuff about a preloader... I am so sorry I dont understand, I have been reading and reading but I am just worried I will do something to my wii that I cant fix. can anyone help me!?

First, do not mix and match softmod guides. Pick a guide that meets your needs, is current and updated, and supported. I noticed your posted instructions is for a 4.0 Wii, but you link to our 4.2 softmod guide.

You need to identify your Wii and use the appropriate softmod guide. Procedures for 4.2 Wiis have more steps and are a bit more complex that the softmod steps needed 3.1-4.1 Wiis.

A custom IOS (cIOS) is needed for a number of homebrew applications and backup game loaders require a cIOS to run. Preloader provides a form of brick protection for the Wii. You can read this intro to softmod to get your bearings: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...g-wii-faq.html

If you follow the softmod guide for 4.2 Wiis, you will be able to play out-of-region games using the settings within NeoGamma. Priiloader does now also have out-of-region settings and the new addition to the hacks.ini script that priiloader uses may have been added to the 4.2 softmod guide by now. Regardless-you do still have to do the softmod, first. No Gecko OS is needed with this softmod procedure. Good luck.

thanks!! there 2 seperate threads in the tutorials... this one:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

    and this one:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...y-4-2-wii.html

are these virtually the same? or is one the more prefered option? Messie's seems to be easier to follow. does it matter which one i use?

    sorry for all the questions!
