To get it back to scratch (see previous posts) I ended up with a complete mix up of software and I'd like to mod it based on the correct guidance here if that makes sense.

Well I rebooted the machine and the settings came back!!! However, despite the waninkokos 4.1 updater that I ran, the machine says Ver 3.3E (not 3.4E I got it wrong). Why has it not updated? :-/

Just ran the waninkokos 4.1 updater again, and after it downloads the files, it briefly says resetting console...however it still reports 3.3E firmware. Any ideas?

Perhaps I need to use waninkokos 4.0 updater first, then waninkokos 4.1 updater after because I'm on 3.3!? (sorry posting after researching these threads)!

Look stop what you are doing and wait till someone who knows more comes to help you before you proceed . And as far as upgrading to 4.1 you would have to install IOS 60 first before trying to use waninkoko updater. But like I said wait cuz I don't know what all you have done and what needs to be done now.

Okay, you're right. I'm being impatient - sorry. Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way. Let me give a detailed history of what I did to get where I am...

Started with a 2 year old Wii, of which is now on official FW 3.3E.

Modded using youtube (stupid of me).

    - Installed Homebrew channel with bootelf etc;
    - Installed Backup Launcher Gamma and AnyTitleDeleter
    - Ran cIOS installer by WiiGator
    - Ran CIOS38r14 installer and updated via wifi
    - Ran USB Loader which worked fine and updated to latest version online

What am I trying to achieve? SDHC compatibility and I want to back up my NAND and use this boot2 thing as a backup.

PS. I'm not trying to annoy anyone, sorry if I have :-/

It seemed to work and went back to the Wii Menu. However now the setting stopped working (semi-brick?). I haven't gone any further in the guide as yet. Will that fix it or is my Wii buggered?

If you would of followed the softmod tutorial you probably would have been all right but your above quote tells me that you tried to virginize your Wii when you really didn't need to.

You need to explain what setting stopped working or what errors it is giving you so someone can help you better and tell you what steps to follow.

Only thing is if someone tells you to do something and you go off and do something else don't expect to get much help after that.

It was fine after a reboot. It just seemed that nothing had changed before I'd run the installer.

Bear in mind that I followed a youtube tutorial to the letter - not the softmod one on here. It was only after I saw that tutorial that you refer to that made me think I should have followed that instead of what I saw on youtube hence I want to virginize and start again.

The instructions on the guide here are so different to what I did though....I wouldn't know where to begin to fill in the bits I missed out.
