Need help with the new black wii

Hi there, just recently my bro bought one of those new black wii's and he asked me to install the homebrew channel and other stuff on it as I done with mine. Everything installed fine on it but the only problem is that I can not get it to play DVD-R's it will only run backuped games from the external hard drive and SD card. So I am pritty sure the cause of this is that it has the new D3 chipset in it. So what I want to ask is, if I buy a D2B chipset dvd drive and replace it with the 1 in the black wii will this solve my problem and is it possible to do without breaking the wii.

All help and replys will be greatly appreciated Thanx.

No inkin, I'm pretty sure you can swap out the drives with no problem at all. I have seen someone do a drive swap and it seemed to have worked without any further complications. Although I could be wrong as I didn't see the process he went through before hand.

Go for USB loading all the way (at least imho). Just dump the games to a HDD. Saves you the whole process of changing components inside the wii (Bigger chance of messing things up there than softmodding it for USB)
