A bit puzzled by which chip to go for?

    Hi,

Been looking around and I am unsure which ModChip I should go for.

I have been looking at the DriveKey and Wasabi chips here: Wii ModChips Work on most Wii drives (D2C, D2C-2, D2E, D3/D2nothing, DMS, D2A, D2B)

Are there any differences between the two chips or do they have the same features?

I am currently running firmware version 4.2E and have checked my serial number in the database and it looks OK.

    Thanks.

Most of the modchips won't allow you to play games out of your region since you are on 4.2.

I was thinking of getting the chip and sticking with original and backup PAL games, I presume this would be OK until a fix is released?

Yea, so far it is the only issue with 4.2, but nintendo is constantly trying to rain on our parade, so be careful not to update next time until you stop by here and see what the situation is.

The DriveKey and Wasabi look like they have very similar features, is it the case of user preference or is one better than the other in terms of future updates, support etc?

Another spanner in the works , I have been looking at this - http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

But I think a chip will be simpler and I can always softmod later.

There are alot of ppl who would prefer to install a chip than to try and deal with the process of softmodding just as there are some ppl who become doctors and others become police officers. Different ppl have different views about it and i don't try to sell anyone on doing a particular thing. It may be for the best, all i can do is offer as much info on the question you ask, unfortunately i know very little about the specifics of mod chips.

After thinking about it for a while I think I will hold off ordering a chip until after Christmas to see if there is any new developments concering v4.2E.

Also I think I will have a good read up on softmodding in the mean time, is there any safety precautions I can take to cover myself incase I brick the Wii?
