Ithian, We've had our wii for over a year but it's been set up with the wireless for some time now. I checked the version and it is a 4.0U just like Max's. I turned it on this morning to verify version and then manualy reset the wireless settings to turn off wireless. I went to internet channel to try and access internet to verify and it is off. Am I ok to proceed with your softmod guide or should I make any other changes prior? Thanks for your help in advance!

You don't want to turn off the wireless. There is an option for wiiconnect24. that is the one you want to turn off, it communicates directly with the wii server.

Sweet, thanks, I do remember saying no to that option when turning off the wireless. So are you saying I should reconfigure the wireless prior to mod or just leave it off until all is modified then I can reset it up?

I would use the wireless, in your situation it is not necessary to update to 4.1, but it sure does make it easier to follow the guide along. All the wii's i modded with this guide were either 3.1 or 3.4, but since everything worked so well after the softmod. I would have used the updater in the guide to update a wii that was 3.2 or 4.0 as well. I believe the updater is the only thing you need it for so if you are not gonna do it, then you won't need to be connected. After i got the mod done, one of the first things i do, is to install the homebrew browser. This also requires internet access and will download and install any homebrew apps you want.

I am one of the few ppl here who still have not purchased a usb external harddrive. I am still using disks and it is no problem for me, i run divx movies of of my usb flashdrive using mplayer. After i get a new job i may get one but it is not necessary right now. You just do what fits your situation best, but i would start off using disks until you outgrow it.

Good morning. I am much agreed with oddgriffin, you've got to use whatever works for you. I prefer to load through a usb drive because I'm very digitally inclined. I really like not having to find another spot to keep even more discs in an already crowded space. But the drawbacks I face are that even though I use a very reliable brand hard drive, it's still just a hard drive and they do fail.

Things are a little down right now and, until I'm within my means again to purchase another drive, I have to constantly worry about the drive failing or accidentally bumping it during a transfer on my pc, and losing all my games since I don't have enough digital space to make copies. I plan to eventually get my hands on some discs anyways to make hard copies of each backup in case something like this does happen. And who knows if I'd had any dvd-r media at all instead of dvd+r when I started doing this, I might still be using them.

Hey guys I know i'm being a pest here but I still need some help. The tutorial under your name that you told me to follow. One of the files is missing it's the one below. Do you have another link I can follow...I did a google search but to no avail. Please all this stuff is very confusing it seems everyone is using something different every where I look and since I followed your instructions to softmod and it worked I'm hoping you can help me again. I'm trying to play a game I saved on my hard drive, I have an 8 gb usb flash drive. So what do I do first?

No worries mate but which tutorial does that come from and what program is it for? I don't recognize it off the top of my head.
For setting up your usb drive you'll need to format it wbfs, just follow the 3rd link below.
