now that i have updated to 4.1 with no problems everything works but now i have a orange light on the power light when the wii is off. Is this supposed to be this way or is something wrong?

That orange light represents Wiiconnect24. If you wish to get rid of it, navigate to Wii Options > Wii Settings > Wiiconnect24 > Standby Mode. Change this setting to "off" and the orange light will be no more.

It is recommended to turn wiiconnect24 off. I modded my wii a while back and never did.

Yeah I used to have mine on 24/7 and my console has never gotten more than a little warm. Now I have Preloader set to ignore standby mode so that when I power the console Wiiconnect24 is on for the weather channel (of all things), and when off, my hard drive will power down with the console. If it weren't for the fact that my hard drive wouldn't shut down without that, I'd have just left it on all the time.
