Previous NEW Wii destroyed, I have a new one now!

Ok. Let me start off by saying thanks ahead of time. It is amazing how fast some of you reply with answers on how to fix specific problems. Long story short, I made a previous post about a brand new out of the box Wii that I had massive poblems with. It was only because the guide I was given and a few others said it was all I needed which was completely false. I have read page after page now here and am ready to try this again. I was able to exchange the previous Wii with a brand new unopened one so I can start from a clean slate. I'm going to put a "#" next to each question I have. If someone can just confirm what I have listed as being right, I'm softmodding this weekend.

#1. I own New Mario Brothers. After I turn on the Wii for the first time, I should update to 4.1 with the New Mario Brothers 4.1 update on the disc right?

#2. Then I should NOT setup internet and make sure Wii Connect24 is of right?

#3. I most likely have a new D3-2 chipset so I have decided to use a WD HDD. After I'm done modding, I want to be able to play .ISO Wii games only and all of the Emulator and ROMS with my wireless Wii controller, can I do this with ONLY following this guide: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html THEN follow http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...s-usb-hdd.html. I know the emulator and roms are separate from that but are these 2 links 100% accurate AND 100% complete for installing HBC, cIOS (for most .iso's), and a USB loader to load the ISO's from the HDD?

#4. To be completely clear. I only need to Install HBC, cIOS's and a USB loader right?

#5. The only thing I'm kinda lost about is "Startpatch" What is it and do I NEED it? Is this to stop updates of some kind from discs? Should I probably not have to worry about that because I'll be on 4.1 from New Mario Brothers and assuming I don't play any newer games after that, I'm safe?

I am trying my best to be as clear as possible. I'm VERY bad at putting my thoughts into words but after screwing up 1 Wii totally, I think I did enough research and just want som confirmations on these

Thanks again for all your time.

    1) Yes

    2) Set up internet but leave Wiiconnect24 off. Decline the update option after setting up the wifi.

    3) Some emulated games require more than the standard Wiimote, get yourself a GC controller.

    4) HBC, Bootmii, DVDx, cIOS and whatever loader and emulators you want.

    5) Preloader will be fine.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

I'll know for sure what version it comes with tonight. The last one we bought came with 4.0 and this second one came from the same store. If it is 4.0 out of box, I'll disable wiiconnect24, setup Internet and do the Mario brothers update to 4.1 then start with homebrew.

My first thought of this whole thing was "I don't care what any if this stuff is, I just want it modded". Well, now I want to learn. I can totally skip step 4 of the softmod guide because I'll be on 4.1 already from NSMB right? I read that section about 35 times and just now picked up on it. I'm just stupid or something lol.

Awesome. Because of my over compulsive disorder, I made a list to make this easier. Here it is so far lol:

    Wii Steps:

    1. Turn on the Wii.
    2. Disable WiiConnect24.
    3. Setup wireless internet connection.
    4. Put in New Super Mario Brothers and update to 4.1 from that disc.
    5. http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html. Totally skip steps 4 and 5

lol. I'm glad to see someone gathering a plan. Most often ppl jump in and don't even read thoroughly. Your thought process will pay off.

Hence why I had to take the first one back to the store for a new one :P

I id learn my lesson though. I've read these guides countless times now and I'm still waiting.
