Playing Wii game from USB HDD

So a buddy of mine pointed me to this site but I'm not sure where to look for the answers I need.

He supposedly used an SD card to install some items on the Wii to be able to play backup games of the Wii off of his USB HDD.

It would be nice to backup my games since my 2yr old is into everything these days including my games.

If anyone could point me to the right direction it would be appreciated.

This tutorial covers partitioning your hdd:

This tutorial helps you format to WBFS, install games and then play them:

I took a look at those links, I didn't see anywhere about using an SD card. Am I mistaken about using one of them?

you need an sd card to use a loader that is an app in homebrew, or to install a loader channel with a wad using wad manager through homebrew.

You need to softmod your wii using an sd card before using a usb loader. Check your wii firmware by going to Wii Settings and look in the upper right corner.
    For 3.1 - 4.1 Wii, use this:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html

For 4.2 Wii, use this one:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

After softmodding, you may use your sd card to install a channel for USB Loader GX.

After you've softmodded your wii, you may prepare and use your hdd, with the links from my previous post.

Sorry for being such a noob!

If I understand this correct there are multiple steps needed.

    1. Softmod the Wii.
    2. Then prepare the HDD.

Since I'm stuck inside all day due to a snow storm on the east coast, I'll try and follow the links suggested.

I'm sure I'll have other questions along the way.

    Thanks to all.

So I finished part A of the softmod tutorial. I am confused. Should I complete parts B and C or go to part D?
