So I'm planning on getting a wii....

and am also interested in hacking it. I've done some research and from this topic http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-new...od-unlock.html found that hacking a brand new wii is possible (which was my first question when I came here). OddGriffin then goes on to explain the best way to do it is through soft modding. That took me here: http://www.wiihacks.com/tutorial-arc...ies-4-1-a.html and at that point I got a bit confused. I consider myself pretty good with computers (i guess) and I got pretty deep into the psp hacking scene but a lot of this is confusing me. The softmod topic would give me a great deal of help but I'm completely lost with all this new terminology one line in particular sort of threw me off: "Not recommended for LU64/LU65 or any Version above 4.1" Im assuming that LU## is the model number or something but it also says that bit about the version. Assuming i get a new wii it will be updated to the most current firmware (right?).

So my question is, for someone getting a new wii what guide is appropriate for my situation (or rather a new wii with the latest firmware update)? There are lots of guides out there and I'm really afraid to brick a brand new wii. A loose answer to this question probably could have been found through some searching (and I'm betting the topic above is the one that would work) but I want to make 100% positive I can do this, and do it right. And I'm generally an extremely paranoid person....

Thanx for any help you can give.

Here is the guide that I used to softmod my 4.2 system. I found it very helpful, informative, and detailed and the only problem that I encountered was forgetting to remove my Gamecube memory cards.
