    Question Unmodable Wii

    Hello,

I went out and bought a new Wii and got the latest solderless Drivekey since it claimed to work with all chips. So I install the Drivekey and set the correct region switches and to my surprise it didn't work, (eject dvd, restart console message ) I thought it is a bad burn so I wasted a bunch of other disks to try to burn it again etc.

after some search, on the homepage of The Wii Drive Chip Database it say that my wii is unmodable. I got the wii with the chip with no writing on it.

I only can find very little information about this situation and my question is, if anyone have some info on this issue, will this be the only console that is not modable or do I just have to wait a wile for the modchip industry to catch up.
What is your opinion on this?

    Wii SN: LU72934717 2

    Thank you, and happy hollydays.

Your Wii is not "un-modable" you just can't load brunt DVDs with it. You can still go the USB Loader route though. There are also hardmods that you can do, such as FlatMii and the WODE that will allow for USB Loading as well, using an external USB device as well.

Thank you for the swift reply,
I purchased the wii for my daughter and I have to keep it as simple as possible.
The FlatMii is just not practical because my PC is too far away from the TV, WODE is interesting but it is not cheap.

What I would like to know is if someone has any knowledge of a new generation of modchip to come that will work on this model. Or should I just return the unit and get a used one that can be modded with the chip I already have?

This is the chip I got:
DriveKey plug in modchip :: Modchip.ca|Modchips & Accessories for Wii, DSi, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 :: Wii :: Drive Key Brand (NEW PLUG IN ) :: NEW DriveKey plug in modchip (2010 NSNB)

    Thank you.

Well sorry to say but the D3-2 chip, for the forseeable future, has no way of circumventing the chips ability to stop burnt disc playback. So from what your describing, trying to locate an older Wii is your best option. Also considering you already have purchased the chip.

Although USB loading is very user friendly. There are also parental controls in most, if not all, USB Loaders today. As long as there is a channel on the Wii Menu for the USB Loader, and the hard drive is connected to the unit. You basically load up the loader and you get a nice User Interface for chosing a game. You can even have cover art for the boxes of the games. Even USB Loader GX mimics the Wii System Menu.

Not to butt in but I think the usb route would be great!

Just look at how easy it is to select games, and loading times are much faster.

Thank you for clarifying it for me.
Since I already have the mod chip I will try to return the unit and acquire one that will work with the Drivekey I have.

If it didn't have the Drivekey already I would definitely go with the USB loader, it looks darn good.

    Thank you.

I forgot to ask if anyone know from what serial number did they started to sell the D3-2 chip?
Or at least what date did they start selling them.
I just don't want to end up buying a used one with the same chip.

    Thank you.
