Newbie Question Play Backup games

I just got my Year Old Virgin Wii connected to the internet and updated it as prompted by Nintendo once it was online for the first time ever. My objective is to play backed up Wii games and have sceen i need Homebrew to do so. After reading the Twilight hack I am concered that updating my Wii already may not be in my favor. Can anyone tell me is this it true or should i still try to continue with the twilight Hack. Also is there any other way to play backup games. I am new to the wii eventhough i have had this one for a year. Thank you for the help.
