    Rock Band Instruments

This Rock Band instrument thing is really giving me problems.

    Here is my setup:

    I've installed the standard IOS38, 53, 55, and IOS50.
    Updated Firmware to 4.1
    Using HomeBrew 1.0.5
    Installed IOS56-64-v5146.wad
Used cios_installer to install cios 37 with cios36 at 249

I'm trying to load Rock Band using USB Loader GX. I can do this with no problems using the 002 fix but, my drums will not connect. I have Guitar Hero Guitars and a 3rd party microphone that all work fine.

I've also used Hermes to change IOS222 to (IOS38 merged with IOS37) and ran USB Loader using this IOS and still no go.

I've read through the forums and tried almost everything and am just at a complete standstill.

I'm not sure what else to try.

Thanks for any help on this.

Ios56 has nothing to do with rockband first off. Also there is a guide on this site on how to get your rock band instruments to work. Go to tutorial section and read the guide. I only have the guitar but others have gotten their instruments to work using the guides.
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me by pressing the little thanks button.

The guide basically tells you to use cios_installer to install cios 37 with cios36 at 249. I've done this and it hasn't fixed the problem.

Also, various threads have been written on this and one solution that has been mentioned is to install ios56.

I've gone through the threads and the guides and I'm still having problems. This isn't from lack of reading the forums and trying the solutions out there. I think part of the problem is that there are various reasons for the instruments not working depending on whether you are loading from a CD or from a USB drive and what firmware you have etc.

If your able to load the game, then you have the correct ios already installed so its not that. You dont install as ios249 because that ios is not friendly to usb devices. Thats why theres hermes 222 installer. Once again i said that I only have guitars but for the rockband titles when I use disc method, I install softchip. I did the same thing as you mentioned but instead of installing as ios249, I installed as ios232. Then when I install softchip, I install that as ios232. Now since I also use usb loader gx to run games from my HDD, I had to install hermes 222 since that loader only has options for ios249 and ios222.

Jason. Thanks. This sounds very close to the information I'm looking for and, where I begin to get a little confused.

Yes, I'm able to load the game with no problems using the 002 fix. Using USB Loader I can load the game with both ios 222 and 249 and it loads both ways but again, the drums don't work.

I've used Hermes to change IOS222 to (IOS38 merged with IOS37) before doing this.

Now, this is where I get confused. What do you mean by:

"I did the same thing as you mentioned but instead of installing as ios249, I installed as ios232. Then when I install softchip, I install that as ios232."

What are you installing as 232? Do you mean that you load the game using ios 232 or, are you referring to some of the software above that should be loaded under ios232? Do I have to reboot under softchip using ios232?

And, how does Hermes allow this to work under 222 so that I can use 222 through USB Loader? I thought that when I used hermes to change IOS222 to (IOS38 merged with IOS37) and then ran the game through USB Loader using this IOS everything would work fine.

I feel like I'm close to getting this going but, missing one crucial piece.

if you bothered to read my guide, that is how you get it to work with "SOFTCHIP" backup loader..... that means "DISC"

If you can't read properly how do you expect it to work????

Read the above post, hes on the money with how to get it to work with usb loader.

Seriously read treksters guide. I have tried his method and it has worked for me but I found it easier to use softchip and have grown accustom to using softchip. I honestly cant tell you if my method works with drums since I have told you that I only have the guitar. But the guitar still uses a usb port so I would think if I can get a usb guitar to work, you should be able to get a usb drums to work. Anyways treksters guide said to install ios38 merged with ios37 install as ios249. Thay way will work as long as you only use the first usb port. You cant have a HDD plugged into the first port and your drums plugged into the 2nd port. I said before that ios249 is not usb friendly when your trying to use the 2nd usb port. You can though install ios38 merged with ios37 installed as ios232 and then install softchip as ios232 so that softchip and ios37 work hand in hand. Ios37 is used with usb games (rockband mainly). Now if your using usb loader GX, there is no option to load a game using ios232. Theres only ios249 and ios222. So in that case, youll want to install hermes ios222. Theres guides on here on how to install hermes 222. I think treksters guide has that in there too. Then when you load up usb loader gx, youll go to the rockbands game options and select ios222 as its loading ios. Plug your usb drums into 2nd port and bingo.

I know it seems like I wasn't reading through the forums but, I went through everything thoroughly and some of this stuff is fairly tricky to pick up on the fly.

I've reinstalled everything and started from scratch to make sure that there weren't any conflicts from past updates that I made along the way.

Basically, I was 95% sure that I needed to run Hermes IOS222 installer and then load the game from IOS222 to get it to run. This is what I did and it still wouldn't work, hence this post. After starting from scratch and trying again, the drums finally sync up. I'm not sure what went wrong before but, my guess is that it had to do with incorrect versions installed at IOS222.
