Getting a new Wii. Confused about the best method to unlock it.

Hi, I've read the forum for some time but I really can't figure out the best method to mod my wii.

I will get one for christmas. I was planning on buying one with a modchip so it won't brick easily and then use softmod to play the newer games.

Is that solution the best as of now? Will wiikey 2 be enough for my porpouses? I just want a chip that will prevent me from bricking my wii.

Well, sorry if the question has already been asked. I did quite some searches but couldn't find anything that solved all my questions.

    Sorry about my english too,

    Homerzinho.

it's not gonna matter about the modchip if the wii has the d2-3 chip in it. and most of the newer wiis will. either get one second hand or if you get a new one be prepared to softmod and use usb devices to play backups.

So, I won't be able to prevent bricks by using a modchip?

Some vendors here are selling pre modded wii's, they already come with some chip.

So, I was thinking of getting one with wiikey 2 or wasabi 2 and start soft modding.

Is that the best option for me? Or should I just get an unmodded wii and soft mod it?

Also, that question probably is answered somewhere else, but as I'm already here...

Does a chip modded wii need an original game to install homebrew, usb loader and so on?

if it is premodded with a chip, it will probably play disk backups fine. if you want to use homebrew and/or usb loader you will have to install software onto the wii using one of our guides.

Here is what i did. I just bought mine for Christmas also. Buy the new Drivekey that JUST came out with the NSBM or whatever they call it fix. Canadamod has them. That chip is the only one that will play ALL games currently. Then go to eBay and buy a Wii DVD Drive for $50. Any drive with DMS, DA2, or DB2 should do. Swapping DVD drives and installing the mod chip is a plug and play deal. It cost $100 to do it this way but is also the best way imo since I do not want to spend time with the soft mod stuff and the brick issues. I just want to play games.

you really need to at least look around before posting a question. you could have accidentally stumbled onto the answer to that.
