Wii got knocked over need help with what white plastic string could be

The Wii was not in it's stand, it was on the ground on a hard wood floor. It fell over and was making a grinding noise. I quickly turned it off and back on and ejected the disc, it seemed to fix it and I put the game back in and is wasn't making a noise, but I noticed a long curly white stringy piece of plastic was coming out and I pulled it out with tweazers. It was getting hit with the fan.

I think what must have happened is the fan was scratching off the plastic, but I want to be sure, since I still have it under warranty(but wal mart doesn't have Wii's in stock).

Does anyone know if their is a long white wire or something else it could be besides the plastic? It is a long white stringy curly piece of plastic, it seems weird that it shaved it off this close and long without tearing it. The Wii is working fine right now, but I don't want a future problem to occur.

Anyone have any suggestions? Do you think the fan could have been bent? Also is the fan in the back really close to some white plastic, because that is what it could have shaved off?

yea that is wierd not sure as i personally never opened one up. my son has knocked his over a few times though and it's a pretty durable system even after it broke off the flash drive that was connected to the usb port, still going strong. as a general rule if you are worried you may wanna do something while it is still under warrenty especially if it could be related to the cooling system, but i would probably see if it is an issue after running it for a couple hours since you did do the mod on it and ya never know what your gonna get back from nintendo.

Thanks for the response, The main thing I was worried about is the white plastic string. I am pretty sure it is just the console was shaved off a littl,e but since it was pretty long about 2 inches I am worried it could have been some other connection piece that got cut off.

I think I will just run it for a while like you said and if I notice a problem I will take it back once Wal Mart gets more units in. My question for anyone who has dismantle the Wii is their a small thin white wire near the back fan that it could have been? Thanks

It could be a wifi antenna

theres two in the wii and one is a white plastic cable.

    Its quite near the drive.

Test your wfi but it might still work ok as the wii has two antenna wires.

    Just a thought

How thick is the wire. I am afraid that this could be the antenna that you say, but it is very thin and I don't see any metal in it, and it seems to thin to be an antenna. I uploaded a video of it, the quality is low though I can probably get a better one later.

Is there anyway I can test if the antenna is not working. I only have one wiimote and it works.

The antenna is for wireless internet not for the wiimote.

To be honest it doesn't look like it, it looks like a piece of worn away plastic.

It may have curled up because its plastic that has been near the a spinning object like the drive motor spindle.

I would say that the drive spindle has worn away some plastic when the wii fell over.

I would say its plastic from the spindle which holds disks in place (i.e the centre hole of the disks)

If the drive is working dont worry about it too much but id say if disks stop reading or start to jump then lay the wii on its side rather than upright

cause it will be easy for the spindle to hold the disk in place in case its been damaged slightly.

Might not be too much to worry about

Thanks thats a relief. So far it hasn't been any problem, I have it standing upright on the stand now and it reads just fine. I will run it and mess with it, since I still have a while under the walmart warranty.

well i have computer repair business and seen many drives with that sort of thing u get shavings of plastic when drives jammed and lock or the motor takes a knock.

Like a say if any problems lay the wii on its side then the spindle isn't having to hold the disk upright if the spindle is bit loose.

I reckon it will be ok you was lucky though.

Yeah so far it works fine. Do you think this may cause a future problem? I got it at walmart on Tuesday, so I can still take it back, but Walmart is currently sold out and I already soft modded it.

What do you think the chances are of a future problem if it is working fine now?
