    Oops.. the wii was upgraded

    Hello,

So I think the wii was at system version 4.0U and I had installed USB Bootloader GX and Boot Mii. I then backed up the NAND. Fastfoward a few months to now. The Wii accidentally was updated to 4.2u. Of course you know this knocks out all the hacks. Good thing I have the NAND backed up right? Well, it seems that it knocked out BootMii as well. So I followed this guide to reinstall BootMii to boot2.

I then booted the Wii and see BootMii. Yay! or so I thought. When I try to restore the NAND I get the following:

    RestoreMii
    Checking boot2...
BootMii found in boot2, ok to proceed.
Dump is for a different Wii

Now I know this dump came from this Wii.

What do I do from here!? Is there any hope? Thanks for any help.

Once you have upgraded to 4.2 your NAND dump from the older system menu is no longer effective. So you must re-do the NAND backup again. To be honest I'm surprised your boot2 is still effective as I though the new upgrade turned your boot2 into a boot2v4, meaning no more BootMii as a boot option, only as an IOS.

yea we are gonna have to look into the technique of this guide he posted. must be something there. may not get to use the old nand but boot2 is something worth going after.

The guide he posted even states to install BootMii as BOTH an IOS and as a boot2, that in itself is wierd. If you could install as boot2 why even bother installing as an IOS? I am all about having as much protection as possible but that is just ridiculous.

Well, before I read any of your replies I found some info on the Bootmii-KEYFIX.exe. I ran that and was able to restore my Wii back to 4.0u. But now my USB Bootloader GX doesn't work.

So, along with all of your input I have a couple of options.
    1) Leave my System Menu at 4.0u and reinstall the USB Bootloader GX
    or
    2) Upgrade back to 4.2u and then follow the 4.2u softmod guide.

    Which one should I choose?

I would follow the 3.1-4.1 guide and upgrade to 4.1. Install Preloader/Priiloader and stay with your BootMii as boot2. I'm glad to hear you were able to restore from 4.2 back to your original system. Good information to know in the future.

The reason your USB Loader doesn't work anymore is likely because of the fact that your restore was made before the installation of the cIOS. That is what gives your Wii the ability to run Loaders.
