not to be downer but what i usually do to get good results every time. totally reboot the pc to refresh the memory, make certain i look at running tasks in task manager and shut anything off that i don't need running. than burn at 4x using alcohol 120%. might seem like extra effort but i use all sorts of brands of dvd-r and have never had failure.

the only other thing i can think of is maybe the lens could be dirty, so it is harder to read these types of disks.

what about the software version of my wii? does that have any impact, and im just double checking, all i do is turn the wii on and insert the backup disk, if its right should it just load? i dont have to do anything else with the drivekey?

the error you are getting indicates a problem with the wii being able to read the disk itself for whatever reason. if it could read the disk then it would begin to interprett the data, then if it were something else a different error would occur or a black screen. at this point it is unable to read the disk so that's as far as it has gotten. i don't know much about hard mods but they rarely conflict with softmodding. in the rare cases that they do ppl have been know to disconnect during the softmod process and begin to use them again after it is completed. also keep in mind if no disks are working for you and you or someone else is opening up the wii in a not so clean environment. you increase the possibility for the other thing i mentioned about the dirty lense. 3 out of the 5 playstation 3 units i have fixed were due to lens needing cleaned. of coarse these folks were heavy smokers as well.
