D3-2 Drive? Game loads, Stops with Error.

I successfully modded my LU7XX (4.0 menu) Wii tonight using the 3.1-4.1 guide. I was anxious to see if i had a D3-2 Drive or not but i only had one blank DVDR. It was a Memorex. I burnt a game (A legal backup of course =-) called Big Buck Fever and inserted it. The disc spun and the game showed up on the channel menu with the sound effects and everything (It`s reading the disc right?). I clicked the game and it loaded about 20 seconds then came back with an error. "Error,Unable to read disk. Please consult your manual."

Is this consistent with other D3-2 drive load attempts or should i go buy another/better brand of DVDR media and try again? My assumption was if it was a D3-2 drive it would not read the disk at all?

Exact Error after starting the game: "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii operations Manual for help troubleshooting."

You can check this site: Wii Drive Chip Database and cross reference you serial number to the list to see if you have the chip. But if you did have the drive, it wouldn't even play the burnt disc. You have another problem all together it seems. Are you using a loader to play the backup? NeoGamma is the preferred loader for discs.

Well i have NeoGamma installed via the http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html Guide. It was the first time i actually tried to launch a game. I powered up the Wii. Inserted my DVDR disc. After about 10 seconds the game showed up on my channels on the Wii homepage. Hovered my wiimote hand over it and the music/sound for the game started to play. All i did was click it with the wiimote. During the load i got the error.

I plan on getting a USB drive here in the next day or two so it really doesnt matter. Would be nice to know what actually happens when you insert a disc into the D32 drive tho. Youtube and a google search didnt turn up much. I`ll pick up some media when i pick up the hard drive and try again.

Well I wouldn't load a backup through the Disc Channel [did you ever install cIOSCORP or softmii before?] the music you are hearing is the banner music playing, not the actual game. Always use NeoGamma for burnt games.

If you insert a disc into a D3-2 drive you will just get a Disc Read Error.

Make sure it's good media [ie Verbatim or Ritek] as well as making sure they are -Rs [+Rs work but you must change the booktype to DVD-ROM], use Imgburn and make sure to use the slowest burn setting you can.

AH. I dont have the neogamma channel on my wii page like other screenshots/video`s show. I`m 100% sure i installed it via the guide instructions tho. I`ll reinstall it when i get the chance and see if it comes up on my channels. Thanks for your help.

I thought the new D3-2 drives cant read Dvd-rs? The only disc it can read are original wii games. Disc backups don't work, but usb loading does. Invest in a western digital passport and use usbloader gx.

Your absolutely right, they can't read burnt discs at all. You will get DVD Read Errors out that arse if you try. OP stated that burnt discs do read just not very well...
