    Softmod or modchip ?

I've been reading around the forum, and reading all the stickies and what not, but I'm still not sure which I want to do. Right now the biggest thing holding me back from softmodding is the chance to brick the Wii, especially since I got it 2 days ago. I'm comfortable with softmodding or installing a mod chip. I'd love to get the WODE but I don't have another $100+. I really want to have it modded soon, which is why I'm kind of leaning towards soft modding, since I could do that right now. A few questions I haven't seen the answer to...

    This guide:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html
says its good for up to 4.1 - my Wii is 4.1u, does it make a difference as long as it's 4.1 ?

Are the official Wii 2GB SD cards ok for softmodding ?

How big of a risk is there of bricking if I follow the tutorial and do everything correctly?

You will be fine if your on 4.1, there is always a chance of bricking, but following the guide to a T will minimize that chance. I would recommend using a SanDisc 2gb NON-SDHC card [have never tried to use an official Wii SD card, but i would assume it would work ok]. But if you do run into any problems please do not try and skip a step. Take a minute, come back to these forums, and ask a question about what is going on. Someone will get back to you promptly.

You could always Hardmod after you have done the softmod, they go very well together. As far as which one to choose, it seems that you have answered your question by the statement of " I'd love to get the WODE but I don't have another $100+."

I would do softmod over an other choice EVEN WODE...... in my signature there is a link to dogeggs tutorial i would do that and make sure you do a NAND backup incase something goes wrong in the moding process... and make sure that you read it all first then try to mod because that helped me when i was doing it....

if you need anything else let us know

p.s and yes the wii sd cards are fine (they should be sandisk) and 4.1 and 4.1u are the same its just the u means that its a NTSC/US console

Awesome, thank you for the replies. I was wondering about hard modding after soft modding, I think I might check out the WODE soon after I get a job and I can affford it XD.

I guess I'll be picking up an SD card tomorrow then

Haha thank you. I usually use Se7eN, but it seems its become quite popular since I started using it in ~2001. I was originally going to use Cthulhu, but I wanted to make it a little more original so I took out an h :P.
