I've Hacked My Wii - A Few Questions Now.

    Hi All,

I have just finished hacking my new Wii that i bought Saturday. I used the below guide done by Messie to do this which i have now installed the Homebrew Channel, USB Loaded and NeoGamma.

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

I do have a few questions though if someone could help.

1.) Through out the guide he speaks about IOS. Please can someone tell me what an IOS actually is? I do find this quite confusing.

    2) Please can you have a read at part D5 and explain to me what I have actually done there. Im not sure what it means.

    3) Im sure that now im finished doing this guide im supposed to be able to run my DVDs? Am i incorrect as the Wii is still failing to play them or should i load them from a homebrew application?

    4) Normally do you guys hook an external USB drive to the wii so you can load your games etc? Or do you just burn them to disk and then use NeoGamma?

    5) Is there any info out there that i should take a read of to understand more on what i have just done etc?

    6) Also is it possible for someone to give me a link probably in a pm as to where it is best for me to download backups etc?

    7) What is the best program out there to burn my backups? Is there a guide out there on how to burn them?

I know these questions sound VERY noobish and im sorry about this. I just need to get things straight in my mind.

    Thanks

    1) http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...explained.html

    2) So Instruments works [for the USB]

    3) You need to use something like MPlayer CE

    4) You can use a USB HDD or burn the games, either way will work [as long as you don't have the D3-2 chipset which won't allow you to play burnt games]

5)The tutorials Section has a lot of reading.

    6) Best places to go [use Google] are Bitsoup, Demonoid, Isohunt, The Pirate Bay, Ntorrents

7)You can use a free program called ImgBurn [again google], you should use good media [ritek verbatim] burn at slowest speed possible and preferably use -Rs

Modding a Wii can be daunting. Being in a situation of knowledge does not come by following a step by step guide. If you are interested in learning more Wiihacks is the best source for any information you could ever need.

    1) There are several threads devoted to discussing IOS and what they are and do.

    2) Different cIOS for using multiple USB devices.

    3) You'll need a loader, some of which were included in the tutorial. You'll also need not to have a New D3-2 board on your Wii as they won't play backups.

    4) I use USB but some people use discs, although it's beyond me why they bother.

    5) http://www.wiihacks.com/submit-artic...ictionary.html The forum is full of posts like this.

    6) No

    7) ImgBurn, if you need a guide for this then you are in serious trouble.

Tealc... Your #4 offended me. lol. I do put some of my "mostly played" games on HDD but since I only have a 500GB HDD, I cant put ALL of my games on there.

I agree. If you need a guide on how to use a burning program, you need to power off your computer and go do some knitting instead.

I completely understand Jason, I've seen some of the quality releases of late such as:-

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3
    Cocoto Surprise
    My Baby First Steps
    Smiley World Island Challenge

These of course must take pride of place on anyone's Hard Drive.

I'm having trouble filling mine, I find the Wii library of games quite lacking in quality and playability. Too much time on PC I guess.

    :P

    Hi guys,

First off thanks for your responses. I really do appreciate your time and effort. Im not that much of a noob and i do know how to use programs like IMGBurn, Nero etc. I only asked this question as I also have a hacked PSP and if i want to convert my own PS1 games to PSP then you need to use Alcohal (well you don't but its definately the easiest.

Also i know S0ur said in the first reply that I am to use a good "Media". I have seen a few people mentioning Verbatim DVD's etc so will probably look at getting these. Would any DVD's do though?

TeaLC - In your Reply you have said about my board to not be a D3-2 board. I only got my Wii on Saturday and it came with 4.X firmware. Are you telling me that it's not possible to play backups via NeoGamma?

That's exactly what I'm saying. Only new Wiis have these boards.

Plug your serial number (on back of Wii) into this Wii Drive Chip Database to give you an idea of the likelihood. D3-2 drives have been designed not to play backups and at the moment this means no backup disc loading with them. There will probably be a workaround, maybe, in the future. For now USB is the way to go with these drives, if you have one of course.
