Which Guiter Hero 5 tutorial is right?

    Hi all,

My apologies for asking something that has been asked before, but I'm really confused.

I did read several threads about this subject, however, I can not figure out which one applies to my situation. Besides, some say that IOS56 should fix it, others say IOS56 is not needed and others talk about IOS 222 and merging several IOS).

So here goes: I'd like to run Guitar Hero 5 from USB disk, preferably using Wiiflow USB loader (or Neogamma R8B7 if Wiiflow would be a problem).

Here's what I did so far:

It's a European Wii (PAL) with some sort of chip (not sure what, but I guess the chip doesn't really matter).

I've followed Dogeggs excellent 'New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii' tutorial which went fine.

After that, I've succesfully installed the Wiiflow USB loader (which looks great BTW)!

I can run almost all games from USB, including New Super Mario Bros. I can run Guitar Hero 5 from DVD. But, what should I do now to be able to play Guitar Hero 5 (and Band Hero) from USB Disk?

    Your help is highly appreciated!

    Thanks a lot,

    Maarten

I think you read the info incorrectly. You need ios56 reguardless of the method you use. After you have that installed, you can either use hermes 222 installer or softchip to run the game. I use softchip to run the game if using disc method but if I am using usb loader gx, then I use hermes 222.
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me by pressing the little thanks button.

    Hi Jason,

    Thanks for your fast reply!

I hope you want to clarify it a bit more for me.

So, if I got it right:

    1. I just use WAD manager, select IOS249 and then install the IOS56 WAD?

    2. I don't really understand what Hermes is. Another customized IOS? Do I need to install Hermes 222 in addition to everything I installed during Dogeggs tutorial, to be able to load GH5 from USB?

    3. Should this work with any USB loader or is Hermes 222 just for usb loader gx?

    Thanks a lot!

IOS56 is not needed to run GH5 from USB hard drive. I don't have IOS56 installed and the game works fine here. I only installed IOS222. Maarten, more than likely the default IOS to boot games with your loader is IOS249, you must select IOS222 to use with that game.

    Hi Stomp,

Thanks for clearing that up! I've read a bit further and (correct me if I'm wrong) apparently the USB loader decides which one of the two custom IOS's (cIOS249 or Hermes 222) is used to load a game.

It looks like Wiiflow doesn't support selecting a cIOS, so I'd need another loader which does (like Configurable USB Loader), right?

If that's right, does anyone know other loaders that offer the chance to change cIOS and look as slick as Wiiflow? I love that layout!

    Thanks all!

    Maarten

Yes, wiiflow will use IOS222, you just need to find it in the settings.
I'll check wiiflow to see how to do it.

When in WiiFlow, press A to select game, then select the settings icon. Go to page 2 of the settings menu. There you can select what IOS to boot the game with. Just make sure you have the latest version of the loader and the IOS222. Look in my signature for the latest version of the IOS222 if you don't have it or reinstall it if you think it is not working correctly.

    Awesome!

I installed Hermes 222, followed your instructions for Wiiflow and I can now play GH5, New Super Mario Bros and all my other backups from USB Disk!

This is the way it should have been ment to be!

It seems that Wiiflow also stores the settings because after turning the Wii off and on again, GH5 started directly without choosing IOS 222.

All that's left to do now is figure out if I can boot directly into Wiiflow using Bootmii. I'll read up on that and start a new thread if I can't figure it out.

Thanks again for your help guys. This site rocks!!
