Ill give you some advice before you go though. First ill start off by telling you to READ this thread thorougly before you softmod the console. Make sure you understand the guide before attempting and ask questions if you dont understand a section. The last piece of advice deals with wads. Anytime your dealing with wads (well basically softmodding too) make sure you have preloader and bootmii installed first. You never know when you could run into a problem (accidently ran an out of region disc update or in your case a bad wad file) and brick your wii. With those programs installed and a backup of your NAND on an sd card, you can fix basically any form of a brick.
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me by pressing the little thanks button.

I haven't see anybody around here offer modchips anymore. I bought a few games for the kids for Christmas so I have to fix this soon...lol

Thanks again. You guys make this site worth coming to for help..Darryl
a modchip should cost between 30-70 dollars, depending on the version of your wii drive. The wasabii dx preconfigured to autoboot is 70 dollors and is a 4th gen chip, which works on all wii's except d2-3 drives (or was it d3-3, can't remember), but if it is an older drive, no trouble.

You can have a look here
If this chip does not work, then none should. It is a very good chip, and has a higher price. But the supplier is a sponser of this forum, so some of it goes to good use.
Any chip that supports your wii would work, so do your homework on that and you may save some cash, but be sure it is preconfigured.

Also remember, it looks like this should work for you, but it is possible that it will fail- hard to tell. But your situation is promising.

GC controller in Port 4 by the way.

I find to enter Maintenance Mode I have to press - to sync the Wiimote, then hold down - and + and then press A three times for it trigger the menu.

    me too!

I have a banner bricked after installing some wad channels i created for some games I installed on my external hardrive. I made some wads and worked great, so i created a couple more and right now ended having my wii just like yours. My problem though i was on 4.2u when i softmoded the system. meaning bootmii is installed as an ios rather than boot2 or at least I thought i did installed. Weird thing is I managed to backup my nand and keys, but havent been able to make bootmii work. I did the gamecube controller hack to make recovery menu show, and I jump of happiness when it showed 4.2u (USA) in the lower right corner of my tv, but nothing works. I try burning everything you can think of, even some discs using some files to make the game.iso as autoboot! nothing works. To add salt to the injury i have a brand new wii that not a single modchip can make work right now. Waiting on wiikey fusion, that might be our solution and like you too I better get it fixed before xmas. 3year old got hooked on Mariokart and Supermario wii big time.

Good luck and keep posting any news.

If you have preloader installed you should be fine. Hold reset and boot the wii. Also, see if you are able to auto boot any games, ssbb and indiana pwns would be nice- from the recovery menu.

I might go and try to rent Indiana and make it as autoboot, but honestly, I found myself playing around with the dolphin gc/wii emulator and just got Supermario wii running smooth as the wii and we might just wait until a chip is available. If anyone finds a solution to this type of brick with a system without preloader or bootmii as boot2 please post here!

    thanks mauifrog!

    Banner Brick update

Ok Regarding my bricked wii. I just got in my Drivekey mod chip I ordered and burnt the wii backup disk. I read the tutorial on how to unbrick the wii and it is pretty simple. (only problem I need to find a triwing screwdriver) Got the gc controller apart with a small standard screwdriver. But not working with the wii very well. I guess this is the only way to unbrick the banner brick. When pressing the directional keypad on the gc controller I do get into the screen with my version on the bottom (3.4) So I just have to get into the wii and install the modchip.

One Question when I install the mod chip and clean my system to original. Can I just boot back ups from the drivekey. or do I have to reinstall homebrew. I think I would rather just use the mod chip. It seems safer.

Thanks for all the help. I hope my experience some what help anybody else with questions..

    Darryl

I used a small jewlers flathead to open up my wii.

Once you install the chip there are a veriety of disks to try, autobooting wadmanager is a good start. The chip is configured to autoboot yes?

Once you manage to boot a disk and remove the bad wad/wads your wii should boot up as before. You can use the chip or the cios, which ever you prefer. It is good to have both.

Yes I believe it is a autoboot chip. It's red and says drive key nsrmc8*vscp4;aiQ I'll pick up one of those screw drivers tomorrow.
I'll look for the autobooting wad manager .

    Thanks Darryl
