Unhappy Accidently updated to 4.2 through official Wii update

    Alright guys, here's my problem.

I first used this guide, installing the homebrew app through bannerbomb exploit with the tutorial on THIS site:

Lifehacker - Hack Your Wii for HomeBrew

Eveything went smoothly, and I had 3.3u at the time. I then found out about WiiHacks, which is a great forum, and I followed the New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii guide perfectly (actually I skipped step 2) until I got to step 4, updating.

I unfortunately didn't watch the YouTube video presented before, and only read the

"If you are on 3.3 or 3.4 then you must update now - DO NOT install priiloader until you have updated as it will cause untold problems!."

assuming this was a top priority move with 3.3u, I updated my Wii through the official updater.

    >.>

I proceeded to do step 5 of New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii, Priiloader, and got an error that IOS36 wasn't patched, or something similar, so this is where it gets confusing to me. I looked back on previous steps and tried to figure out what I did wrong, and then I noticed the actual "Firmware upgrader to 4.1" in the Hoembrew apps and I face palmed myself. I cannot believe I made this mistake.

    <.<

So knowing what I did wrong, I tried to follow this guide, Get a cIOS on 4.2 Wii but have had no luck. I am currently very confused at the moment because when I first did the exploit I did it from another site, with different files I believe, and the very first step in the Get a cIOS on 4.2 Wii doesn't work, the renaming of tbrboot.dol and everything (cannot get it to load throug Homebrew apps).

    <.>

So, the TL;DR version is that halfway through New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii tutorial, I updated my Wii officially to 4.2u, and tried to proceed with the Get a cIOS on 4.2 Wii tutorial but failed. I was thinking about just formatting my SD card to a blank state, and trying Get a cIOS on 4.2 Wii all over again. If I did this, would this hurt anything or lose any valuable information?

I really appreciate anyone taking the time to read this and helping me out, I tried my best to present my problem in the clearest of ways and hope someone can give me a simple answer. Thank you.

    Kana

EDIT: I'd like to add that currently I can use all the apps in the Hoembrew channel just fine, I've been playing with Snes9x and all of other stuff just fooling around, my main goal in this is to get a backup disc loader to work.

Try the 4.2 guide linked below. If you have hbc, bootmii, and dvdx, you can skip that part, but do everything else.

Alright guys, will do first thing tomorrow morning. How about formatting my SD card again? Are there any important files on it that need to stay or are they all on the Wii?

You should drop all files off the card and replace them with the ones from Messie's guide.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

mauifrog and Tealc (sour too), thank you for the speedy and accurate responses. I followed messie's guide perfectly (and felt safe to remove files from my SDcard) and was able to install the new cios and run my backup games. I have also backed up my NAND this time. Everything is working perfectly. I haven't yet did the wad stuff yet (the steps after successfully installing the cios) but I'm sure that will go just ok.

Once again, thank you guys, I can't believe how fast and accurate your responses were. You can most defentily expect a donation coming AND I have already spreaded the word for Wiihacks.com. . I'll catch you guys around the forum
