    need to decide on softmod

Hi, i am new and had been reading a lot in the forum. it is full of great info

i was ready to softmod my wii but i am a little concerned since it will be mainly used by the kids (7 and 5) and i am affraid of they dont been able to load games in a softmoded wii

what if I go hardmod? will I have the same functionalities meaning wiiware, wads, virtual console, hdd, usb and SD games? multiregion? dvdplaing?

i have read a lot about what you can do when you softmod but it is not clear for me than hardmod can achieve all the same things

any help will be appreciated... thanks

hardmod is nice but unfortunately it alone is only good for playing backups from disk.

You could do a hardmod along with the softmod, they go well together. But softmod, in my honest opinion, is the way to go. Plus it's cheaper, lol.

OK... it is clear in a technical view that softmod could be better but my concern comes with the on-going complexity and living with your decition

with hardmod the issue seems to be finding out the right media and the size of each game (cannot verify if you can run scrubbed games with chips)

with softmod you keep patchin ios uprgrading, downgrading and each game could accidentally auto-update and brick your wii and so and so and so

if we think this as if we are choosing a car softmod could be a ferrari but you will need to tune it continually and you need to take care about it

hardmod is a good care (you choos the brand) once you have you need just to drive it and if that is all you want then you are done

i just want to run games... and i am 9 hours a day at work so i cannot keep coming to this forum to understand what i did wrong and patch un-patch upgrade downgrade for each game... and it seems that this is kind of common on softmoding.

as i said..i am new, and excited about this option... if i have to choos i ll go softmoding if i were the only one using "our" wii, but the kids will kill me every night if it thakes 3 or 4 days to get a game running

true a modchip is generally a no-brainer in these kinds of situations. and softmodding requires some thought process. neither one is foolproof, and by your anology incapable of breaking down or needing repair. the last update to 4.2 rendered the chips unable to play games out of their region, and some of the newer games required modchip users to softmod in order to play them. softmod allows for an individual to add the ios or system files needed to play games whereas a modchip will only allow for use of dvd drive (not usb/sd devices) and requires you to update through nintendo to get these ios files and risk rendering the chip useless. a good combination is the chip and softmod.

understood... we have had the wii for a month, chipping it now will give us plenty of fun and games for a while. if i run into troubles with a specific game i really really really want to play i will softmod (eventually this will happen in 3 to 4 weeks)... i will keep reading asking and learning while chipped

last thing.. new new new chips are talking about running games from sd (wiikey fusion for example in this same page advertisement). is that an actual feature or is an future feature?

It will be able to play off of an SD card. There is also a hardmod that will allow you to play off of a hard drive, disc and usb. It's called the WODE.
