When you say won't load any discs do you mean originals as well as backups or just backups?
If the Wii is brand new it may have one of the new drives where currently its not possible to play backups from DVD-R. For example the Black Wii has the new drive in from my experience however having moddified 2 x Black Wii's I've found the USB loader from HDD still works fine.

You really need to add additional detail to your post for people to assist such as what version of system firmware do you have currently and have you installed any custom firmware also how are you currently trying to load discs? Just through the standard disc channel or using some other method?

I would go with USBloaderGX for usb loading. But even if your wii did have the new chipset, you still should be able to read retail games. How old is your wii? Is it possible your drive could have went out or have you recently made any modifications that could be to blame?

I used to load from discs and just got an external hdd. Now just have to find the time to set it up. I think the usb loading guide in my signature has a link to a list of all compatible usb devices. Hope you get it going!

No. That's the size of the iso when it's burnt to disc. You will have your game info up front, the then however many zero's it takes to get the size up to 4.7 to burn to disc. Good example is the New Super Mario. That game is only about 300mb. So when you put in onto a hdd it will only take up 300mb
