    4.2 help

hey guys my other half bought a special edtion wii, the black one, just last week and i was going to hack it using your tutorial on here for 4.1 which is what FW came pre installed. She has in her infinate wisdom now been online and updated to 4.2! I see there is a tut for hacking 4.2 FW shall i still go ahead using this 4.2 TUT? Also i read that a lot of new wii's have this new dvd chip in? which does not allow the reading of DVDR's? does this mean that if my console has this drive i will only be able to load from USB HDD?
    Many thanks in advance Zybel

Your Wii most definately has the new D3-2 drive [all limited edition black Wiis have this drive to my knowledge]. So no burnt games for you, but USB Loaders will work fine.

And yes just use the 4.2 guide in my sig or in the tutorials section to mod your Wii.

Everything you need is covered in the guide. In the chance you have a problem, then just update this thread with a description of the problem and/or the error code you are getting, and someone will be happy to help you out.

you used several tuorial? was this something that installed HBC alone, or was it a guide to mod the system for playing backups? we have a guide for 4.2 in our guides section for disk backup. if you have homebrew and are not seeing the apps they are not placed in the apps folder correctly. if you download an app called "BLACK" for example there should be a folder called BLACK with a boot.dol inside, and that folder called BLACK would go directly into the apps folder like this

    apps\BLACK\boot.dol

well, i reviewed different tutorials. it came from a youtube install procedure but the acutally link with all the apps was no longer active so i got the private/apps...but with my original 3 (mpsplayer, scumm and another program). for now i have my hbb inside my apps folder. i'll research the "black" folder. Thanks

    not private/apps
    apps\BLACK\boot.dol

the black was just an example of if there was an app called black.
