External Hard Drive, USB Loader GX HELP

Hi everyone, I need some help using an external drive on USB loader GX.
To give you some background, I used the 4.2 guide and got my wii up and running with USB loader GX. I had an 8GB USB flash drive loaded with Call of Duty and the game ran and loaded perfectly. I then tried with Punch Out and that worked perfect as well. I loaded the games and formated the usb drive using the WBFS manager 3.0 on my computer.
I realized that it would be awesome to get an external drive so all my games would show up in USB loader GX and I would not have to delete and load games from my computer everytime I wanted to play them.

I went to walmart and they had two 1tb drives for $99. I ended up buying Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1TB Silver External Hard Drive ST310005FDA2E1-RK - Retail
The other option was the Western Digital.

I plugged the drive into power and then plugged it into the usb on my computer and using xp I went to partition the drive. I deleted the partition that was on the drive and was left with 900+ of unallocated drive.
I partioned the drive into 400GB and 500+GB so i was left with 2 NTFS formatted drives (Drive M and Drive N).
I then went into my WBFS manager and selected drive m and formated it to WBFS. I then browsed for the call of duty ISO file and added it to the disk just like I did with the flash drive.
Here is where I run into my first question. It took about 50 minutes to load the game to the drive which surprised me because it only took about 5-10 minutes to add to the flash drive. Is this normal to take this long adding to an external?

After it finally was added, i unplugged my external from usb and power and moved it over to my wii. I powered it on and plugged it into the usb that i had used for the flash drive and then powered on the wii.
I opened up usb loader GX and i saw call of duty and the drive read 300+GB free (so here I am thinking SUCCESS!). I click the game to run and it just freezes to a black screen.
This is the only time i even got this far, now everytime I open up USB Loader GX with the drive plugged in it goes right to black screen and it never even gets to the loader main screen. If I unplug the drive and put my flash drive back in, it works perfectly.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I go return this drive and exchange it for the western digital??? Do I need to format and partition the drive in a different way????

And a question about externals in general, is it bad to unplug these from power and usb back and forth like I will have to do to move it from computer and wii everytime i want to add new games?? What is the proper way to unplug everything?

ANy help is appreciated, I was all excited to get this up and running but this hang up is really makin me sad

    Thanks!

been hearing lately alot of ppl having problems getting this usb loader to work with their hard drives and yet works with flashdrives. and usually once they try to use it with the harddrive it stops working alltogether. i personally never used it when i had a usb device but i have heard good things about neogamma and it worked for me with usb devices as well as games on my sd card. i think it would have been installed from the tutorial. have you had any success with neogamma?

Isn't neogamma only used to load from a burnt DVD??

I really would love to get USB loader GX to work with my external drive just like it did with the flash drive because it is so nice how it lists your titles and provides the coverart on the left side for each title.

yes but i'm trying to determine where the problem is. if another app works then it is not a problem with the drive. sounds like that usb loader starts to work then gets stuck on something and never really resets itself. the version of neogamma i have reads disks, usb devices, and sd cards. i think at the top when you load it there is a setting to "play games from" and you change it from disk to usb.

well the reason I thought it was the drive with the problem is because I can put it in the USB flash drive and bring up the USB Loader GX and the program runs perfectly and so do the games. But when I try to external hard drive it seems like it completely crashes the loader and goes to black screen before I even get to the game select screen.

Also the fact that it took like 50 minutes to add the game iso on WBFS manager to the disk when it only took 5-10 minutes to add it to the flash drive.

I don't know if externals are just slow in nature or whats goin on here

Read from other post (don't remember where) that Seagate FreeAgent USB drive won't work for USB Loader.

Well if that is the case I guess I should go exchange it.

Does anyone have confirmation that the Western Digital 1tb works well with USB Loader GX??? or any opinions on the drive in general?

Also any general info on externals, do they normally take longer to load to, do they run slow? Is it bad to constantly be pullin out the power and usb cords to move across room back and forth?

I have a medion drive and go 250gb from aldi. works nicely on USB Loader GX. Main reason i think it works ok is that the actual drive is a Western Digital which i think are quite and good partner when it comes to usb loading.. WBFS on my Desktop can add an iso at no more than a minute for the largest of games. USB loading defo the way to go.. Just a case of trying them all out to get all the gams to run on the one loader. Guess thats something i am having to read up on.. Poss IOS updates, Not sure..

I have 1tb wd drive, I have split it 500gb wbfs and 500gbs ntfs. It currently sits at my pc. I have an extra long 10m usb cable running from my pc desk to wii. So when I need to use wd for usb loading I just unplug (safely) drive from pc and plug into usb cable for wii. I use Configuable usb loader, I like it because it has never let me down and I can also pimp it with themes and tunes.
Remember to have cios rev 14 installed too.

is the usb port you are using usb 2.0 ? i was adding a game to my seagate drive (500gb) and didnt realise i had usb 1.0 ports in the front of the pc thought they were 2.0 , anyway i loaded it up on the 1.0 port it took 40 mins and just to see how much slower it was to the 2.0 port i deleted it and installed it on the 2.0 it took 5 mins.
