Smile Help with softmodding and usb loader

    Hi,

Newbie here, but hopefully to be considered competant.

I have softmodded my own wii, which was already on 4.1E. All went well, no bricking etc. Few crashes trying to get USB Loader GX working, but all sorted now thanks to wiihacks.com

Problem now comes when I am trying to mod a mates wii, I followed the easy guide on here 3.4-4.1 softmodding guide. All appears to have gone well, although did crap a few bricks when I couldnt load system menu, only preloader..... sorted now.

I install neogamma r8b7 but it doesnt show up as a channel or anywhere for that matter........

And also the USB Loader GX keeps crashing after about a second of the splash logo........

Please help, thanks in advance, I know someone will reply asap by the look of the other forums..

first thing to check is have you cIOS38rev14.

As you are a first time poster here is some info.

Hi and welcome to WiiHacks fats84

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Don’t be shy, ask if you are stuck, just don’t expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index Ultimate WiiHacks Index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Don’t update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.

To check what the version is, GX settings, then credits, it will give you the GX version, rev828 or above and the cIOS, IOS249rev14.

You could try installing the basic app under HBC, then run from HBC

    Hi
I am also having problems, I followed the guide by messie for hacking a wii with 4.2.
I got through it no problems,
I can get usb loaderGX to start and recognise both my HDD and USB stick with all the games on them (through HBC)
but as soon as I start a game I get a black screen.
I waited a couple of minutes, but still a black screen.
I installed the cios38rev14 and then also tried using cios222 installer to install ios 202 using ios 36. I also updated (full) to the latest version of USBloader GX.
    Still no joy.
    Any help/tips/clues would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Pac

For black screens, try loading the IOS for that particular game.
here is a list of most IOS that games use.

    For anyone following this thread....

I sorted the crashing by simply downloading the latest USB loader gx wad (v815), removing the existing channel and installing the wad via wad manager, which automatically put a forwarding channel in. All Sorted.

I also tried adding themes to the program, but when I used the download feature built in it failed saying "can't create file". I couldnt find a way to get it to work through the program. Some one may be able to help?????

So I manually downloaded them try google, and wii.spiffy360.com/index.php.
Add them to any directory within the SD card, check for wbackground.png if you are using 16:9 screen format. Just change the background.png name to wbackground.png. Then through USB loader go into setting and custom paths, select the folder of one theme and restart software to apply theme.

    Happy days....

    Ok now I'm really confused!
I looked at the list of IOS used by various games.
I selected Clone wars which uses IOS 53. I downloaded the IOS 53/55 pack from that thread.
Launched WAD manager and installed both 53 and 55 using ISO 249.
Was that the right thing to do? cause it still doesn't work with USBloaderGX. the HDD shows up no problem and even saved all the cover art to the drive, so I'm definately doing something wrong with the IOS.
USBloaderGX is using IOS 249 in the game launch settings.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks
    Pac....

    Do other games work.
If you are happy that the ISO is OK, then try the GX settings,
002fix on, off, anti, or alt
    use 249
    use 222
