I've been reading a bunch of different tutorials now I am a little confused.

Can any Wii be softmodded? Even the brand new ones? I read through the softmodding tutorial on this site(which seems like a better site than the other ones I was looking through) and it says that it works on any Wii. I had been looking through other forums and Wii hacking sites and I saw that LU64, LEH250 OR LAH113 Wii's have trouble being modded. Is this true? I want to just go buy a new one, but if it is better to get a used Wii that is not one of the previously stated versions I will. Thanks for the help.

Any Wii can be modded, but some can't run burnt games. Those are usually newer and have the D3-2 chipset. You can check this link and cross reference your serial number to see if a particular Wii has the chipset: Wii Drive Chip Database

Thanks for the quick response. So when you say burnt games does that refer to all back ups or just ones burned to a disc? I modded my PS2 with a hard drive and want to do the same with a Wii, so is the problem with the newer Wii's reading the games from a DVD-R or will it also have problems with the external hard drive?

USB Loading will always work fine, it's the burnt discs that are the problem. If your gonna be going the USB route, before you purchase a HDD, you may want to check the link in my sig for USB Compatibility List as some drives do not work.

Oh awesome thanks man. I really appreciate the help it always seems like the modding community is always so helpful. I am so glad I found this forum, I was looking through some other ones and they were not close to as active or organized.

I will check through the board before asking more questions, so I won't be tying up the mods or anyone else helpful. Thanks again.
