going to buy a wii... kinda lost

So, sorry to be such a newbie, but I still have some doubts:
first of all, should I buy a modchip unlocked console or not? Is it better buy an unlocked version and use the softmods recommended in this site? the homebrew channel and stuff?

if I buy a modchip version, which one should I prefer? Almost all Wii's 'round here have a AmazeKey chip, which do not seem to be very popular...

and last: the workaround for updating and playing new games such as New Super Mario Bros will work on any modchip or on specific softmods? Or my Wii need to be updated to some latest version which can be a pain-in-the-*** to install?

    thanks for any advice!

thanks! I got a few things from there. But i'm still a little confused about which unlock is better and about updating with chipmod. Could someone clear just these two out?

You do not need to hardmod if you don't want too. Although hardmod and softmod go well together. As far as updating, it should never be done from official nintendo servers. If you must upgrade use a SAFE updater such as Waninkokos SAFE 4.1 4.2 updater, this will leave homebrew intact. I use softmod for everything and never had a problem.

That I couldn't help you with, I have never hardmodded a Wii yet.
