Which version is my Wii? Don't know what is compatible.

A friend recently gave me his old Wii. The Wii is a Korean model by looking at the box and model number.

I'm trying to play NSMB and install Mplayer but I'm failing all the time. I don't know which version is compatible with which.

    This is my Wii information:
    Model No. RVL-001(KR)
    Serial No: LKM1085XXXXX
    2008
    v4.0U

This is what have been installed already. I tried to determine what model mine is so I can install future updates myself.

    Softchip R99 Music
    SoftChip v0.0.1-pre
with IOS 249 (Rev 14) Loaded

    USB Loader v1.5

    NeoGamma R7Rc4

    the homebrew channel v1.0.1 IOS36 v255.255

I've read guides on how to install to from 4.0U to 4.1, but I don't know if this Wii has actually been chipped or not, or just softmod?

Can someone help me find out which Wii model I have? Which way should I go about updating?

    Thanks.

looks like its been softmodded, I've had a look on the wii serial directory for your model but it doesn't list it, it does list some Korean Wii's: see here

I'm always of the optinion if it ain't broke don't fix it... unless you have a reason for updating.

no harm in updating to 4.1, but don't got up to 4.2. In your case (A region changed Korean Wii, it will more than likely brick your wii if you go to 4.2)

NSMB cant just be chucked in and run like other games, read the guide linked in my sig for details of what you need to do.

I read 2 of the guides. Your last 2 guides.

Is the Wii already IOS249r14 already? is that any different to the cIOS?

I'm new to this so I don't know any terms.

I've tried to search in the forums on how to get the WADManager installed and also found nothing. Is it that easy to install without a guide? I don't know if it's that easy or not.

The other places I think I understand for the most part.

    Thanks for the quick replys.

I couldnt find any links to download cIOS249r14.

Also, just to make sure, this is softmod? No hardmod?

Since if it is softmodded? is it better I start from the beginning? or just try to update to 4.1 from the given guide?

you listed cIOS249r14 as being installed on your first post. updating it wont make that game work. look at the tutorial there is also an ios file that needs to be installed as well as other things done to the image file of the game

I wasn't sure if the cIOS and normal IOS was the same.

I will go ahead and do the Upgrade to 4.1 with Homebrew guide.

    Exclamation

I went and tried to install the IOS60 patched and after I restarted my Wii, I got weird letters saying "The system files are corrupted..."

I'm guessing this is bricked. Can I restore this to a normal state?

    Please someone help?

    Thanks
