Help! How do I Uninstall Preloader v.29 from my Wii v4.2u?

Okay, let me make this as brief as I can. Hopefully you can find some pathetic humor in this.

A few days ago I decided to hack my Wii (4.2u) to make an attempt to install Super Mario All Stars (NTSC). So I used xzxero's incredibly simple guide (Modify any Wii 4.2 & below - GBAtemp.net) to install the necessary mods - I installed Homebrew, DVDX, BootMii as IOS2 and boot2; I made a NAND backup; I restored the Trucha Bug; I deleted the Stub IOS's; I installed the cIOS and patched the System Menu IOS.

    And then...

...I installed Preloader v.29. From xzxero's guide it was recommended to install it as v.29 and then upgrade to v.30. I tried to upgrade and then the controller shut down and nothing was happening for 5 mins. I freaked out, so I shutdown the Wii and when I restarted it the Preloader menu came up; I had no idea what the hell this was. With sweaty palms and shaky hands I got to the System Menu. I was freaking out so I deleted Homebrew and reupdated my wii to 4.2u again just to clean out the system. Phew I thought. Then I restarted the Wii. Preloader v.29 came up again!!! So I reinstalled everything all over again - Homebrew, DVDX, BootMii, made another NAND backup, restored the Trucha Bug, deleted the Stub IOS's, installed the cIOS and patched the System Menu IOS. BUT I did not reinstall preloader.

And this is where I need help from anyone who can spare me some. The choices I've heard are using 1.) AnyTitle Deleter, 2.) Using a Wad Manager to install a new System Menu, and 3.) pressing the (-) button on the Wii controller to uninstall preloader.

All I would like to do is uninstall all the mods and have my Wii squeaky clean and back to normal without erasing my data. (I worked my ass off beating Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros - yes with all the 3 coins.)

What is the safest way of doing this? Much obliged.

so when u turn on ur wii, preloader boots up?
just go to settings and change autoboot to SYSTEM MENU and it should boot into the menu at start,
also preloader is a usefull tool you should leave it.

if u dont rly want it then installing fresh system menu files should fix it easy.

You don't have to re-install a new System Menu. If you have the same files on your SD card that you used to mod it, then just go into HBC and then pick preloader. It will then ask you to either install or uninstall it.

If you would like to clean your Wii, then just follow the guide in my sig to "make your Wii a virgin".

There is no way to safely downgrade your system, which hinders the ability to really clean it properly. But it can be done, but be warned, it can be tricky to do with the 4.2 system.

Just be careful, I don't know how well the process goes for 4.2 systems. Just warning you.

Just leave it as it is booting preloader at the start, this is useful because if you manage to do something stupid, you can get to the homebrew channel without having to go through the system menu.

Preloader should come up when you boot the wii up, its not a bug or anything.

    Trekster,

Thanks for your message. My issue is that Preloader v0.29 starts up and says "There is an important update to v.030" and when I try to update it stays on "Download Logging" indefinitely.

When I go to click "Systemmenu" from the preloader menu is says "Couldn't find hacks.in from FAT! or NAND. And then it just goes to the regular Wii System Menu.

All I'd like to do is make my Wii a virgin again (haha). My Wii is updated to 4.2u, but I have absolutely no clue how to safely get rid of Homebrew, BootMii, DVDX, and everything else, especially preloader.

You need to put the hack.ini on a standard sd-card to load them into memory. You can find the hacks here-, once they are loaded to the nand you don't need hacks.ini
Then be sure to set the hack, like update block in preloader setting, and change the auto boot to system menu and return to system menu, it you want to boot to the system menu. Optionally you could boot into hbc, or your favarite app, like usb loader.

Take a deep breath, don't virginize your wii, you are more likely to screw it up that way. Also you will find that preloader will not boot in hbc (probably) this is no issue, but if it bothers you install priiloader instead.

    Thanks Mauifrog,

I have the original hack.ini and it is on my sd card. How do I load them into the memory exactly? Will that help me update the preloader from v0.29 to v0.30?

    Thanks!

With the hacks.ini on the sd-card you should be able to choose which ones you wish to use from preloader. Make sure they are for 4.2 or they may not work, also must be an sd-card.

I would not worry about upgrading to .30 unless you are looking for more than you have. You can try, I have not and many people have issues with the built in updater freezing. Preloader is dead in the water and not being updated any more. I am going to wait a while longer and switch to priiloader, a mod of preloader- but I will let it mature a little longer. Many people are happily using priiloader, but if it's not broken- don't fix it.
