Arrow Safe (and useful?) to install Priiloader AFTER completing softmod guide?

I just successfully completed a softmod of my Wii 4.0U using the 3.4-4.1 softmod tutorial on this site.

However, I skipped over the step to install Priiloader. My question is now: is it safe to install Priiloader NOW? My concern is that I have already installed these wads:

    IOS38-64-v3610
    IOS50-64-v4889
    IOS53-64-v5149
    IOS55-64-v5149
    NeoGamma r8b7

.. and on the Priiloader FAQ page it states "IT IS _HIGHLY_ RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL PRELOADER ONLY ON A WII WITH UNMODIFIED IOSs!!"

Obviously I do not want to brick my Wii, especially considering that I had to install bootmii as IOS.

And a related question: is it even useful for me to install Priiloader? It's a bit hard to determine from a light reading of the info on this site exactly what it does. Right after softmodding, I installed USB Loader GX and tried to launch New Super Paper Mario Wii (PAL) on my (US/NTSC) Wii. All I got was a green or black screen. So I am wondering if perhaps this is something Priiloader would help with.

    Any help is most appreciated!

priiloader is an update to preloader, it should be safe.
If u dont have preloader then its very usefull, it can block disk updates and save u from small bricks(corrupt system files, etc) and run bootmii as ios from its menu.

OK, I installed Priiloader after all the other softmod steps and it worked great!

NSMB now starts right up without further hackage.

    Thanks!!

I have pretty much the same question, the only difference is that I've completed a softmod of my Wii 4.2E.
    Is it safe install priiloader?

Exactly what does that "IT IS _HIGHLY_ RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL PRELOADER ONLY ON A WII WITH UNMODIFIED IOSs!!" mean anyway?
I mean, if I've softmoded my wii then I must have modified some IOSs right? And it is because I've softmoded that I want to have some brick protection and therefore install priiloader. But it pretty much tells me that's it's not recommended?

I've successfully installed preloader after modification and it runs fine. I would totally recommend installing preloader, just make sure that you install patchedIOS70 before hand.

Well I can tell you that Priiloader installed without a hitch after I'd completed the softmod process. I wager that the "unmodified IOSs" warning is just the Priiloader folks covering their butts from complaints, and/or older IOSs used in the softmod process may have not played as well together as what is available today.

Also it doesn't seem like Priiloader would be of much use if we didn't have some modified IOSs on there anyway.

Having Priiloader installed, I like the functionality it provides, in particular the region-free setting and the disc-update blocking (something which from what I can gather could itself brick your Wii).

I'm not much more experienced than you, but from my limited experience I believe installing Priiloader is safe to do after softmodding. It would be nice if that could be clarified on the softmod tutorial on this site.

Glad you got everything sorted. The guides are in constant update as newer versions of things come out. Things change so fast that everything can't be up to date all the time. Also preloader is definately NOT needed for modification, but is recommended. So it is at the users discretion as to whether they want to install it or not. A little bit of research on everyones part is expected as we don't know exactly what people will be doing with their systems.

    Thanks for the info s0ur.

Adding a note to the effect that installing Priiloader after completing all the other steps in the softmod guides is safe to do -- given that you are following the guides as-is, without additional tweaks -- might help clarify things there.

Though what actually caused me to skip over the Priiloader step in the 3.1-4.1 guide is that I was mainly following the Youtube videos screen-by-screen after my initial read over of the guide.

When it came to the "post softmod" steps including the installation of Priiloader, I just started that associated video and followed along. It was only after I had completed following that video that I realized the Priiloader step was NOT included in the video. That's what led me to think that my skipping over the Priiloader step may have been an irreconcilable mistake.

So adding a video just for the Priiloader install step would probably help reduce confusion on this point.

Cheers, and thanks for all the help!
