DVDx doesn't read backed up games

    Hi,
I installed HBC using bannerbomb aad1f and hackmii v0.6. At first I had a problem with "can't find updateable IOS so I ran DOP-IOS mod to fix IOS30v1040. Installed HBC and DVDx, but when I tried to play a DVD with backed up game, it doesn't read it. It doesn't recognize the disc. I didn't use this tutorial so I don't have all those IOS15 and IOS36 wad files on the root of my SD card. I figure if I can't get this to work, trying to burn games from USB Loader GX won't work either.

sounds like you just installed homebrew channel and started putting apps in there without intalling a cios. what kind of errors do you get when trying to play a backup? what sysem menu version do you have? and dare i ask what guide did you follow?

When I booted from the boot.dol file, it asked it gave me choices of installing HBC, dvdx, and bootmii. I installed the first two. These instructions came from Heather and Mike site. After I installed hbc and dvdx, I installed cios38_rev14, then went to USBLoaderGX. My friend had already loaded my hard drive (Western Digital) with some games from his loader so the drive seems to be okay. But, when I try to run the games, it will give me a black screen, or it the screen will start to flip (like no vertical hold) and be black and white. I tried ripping a game through the USBloaderGX, but it doesn't complete, it freezes and eventually gives a dump. I then tried to stick a burned dvd game and pull it up through the regular screen (not through hbc), the wii says that it doesn't recognize anything in the drive. My menu is 3.2u.

ok black screen usually means you need some ios files to get it to work. and as far as the screen flipping means you are playing an out of region game. in this case since you are on 3.2u, your wii is ntsc. if you play a game that is in PAL region you must select force NTSC from the menu in the loader you are using. and the regular disk channel isn't used to play backups

I thought that was how you're supposed to run backed up games, through the wii screen (top left 1st block)? How do you run it? Would you know which IOS I'm supposed to install? I'm starting to think I should uninstall hbc and start over with these instructions instead.

The instructions on the first page of the "New 3.1-4.1 softmod for any wii" don't mention downgrader. Do I need to do that since I'm on 3.2? Is there an advantage to then upgrade to 4.1?

the main advantage to using the 4.1 system menu is the ability to use preloader. this program can be used to block system updates from disk and it can still loadup and allow system access when your regular sysem menu has failed.(very handy if you were unable to install bootmi as boot2 and had to install it as an ios.) if you don't feel the need to use preloader you can simply install the ios files needed with wadmanager which even after upgrading to 4.1 you would still probably end up doing. there are a variety of different loaders used to launch backup games, neogamma is of the most popular.

i think 4.1 lets u use SDHC cards, also preloader(very usefull).
Also the top left block is only for original games, u need something like Neogamma r8 backup loader and also cIOS38 rev14

    edit:lols i was late w/ the responce
