Thank you for going the extra mile. I find it a little funny that you just installed the ios60-patched.wad to see what it did. But I guess its a little less daunting for the wii-mod-expert like yourself. Yes it appears that everything is fine and doing that produced no errors nor bricked my wii. I even updated my firmware via the firmware updater after I installed IOS60-patched on ios249 and the firmware updated without issue. I am still left with questions that I really wish I could find the answer to... One im sure you can answer...

    1. should I do anything with my current ios60 that I installed the ios60-patched.wad? Yeah it appeared to have no noticeable effect, but I'd hate to get burnt later on...

and really the answer I really would like to know...

    2. What is IOS60 used for? I installed ios60-patched.wad on ios60 so that had to do something. It replaced one cIOS with another cIOS but what was the difference? If IOS60 even used for anything important?

perhaps I should just shrug it off and move on but I kind of like to know the inner workings of things at least on some fundamental level. I don't have much interest in writing custom IOS's but i am interested in change logs or file histories.

anyways thank again Tealc... I clicked the thumbs up for you.

IOS60 is actually a System IOS, that being a critical part of the running of a Wii when it's at 4.0. Remove it and you brick. A Wii System Menu is made up of two files, the IOSxx.wad and the System Menu.wad. The System Menu wad is over 20MB, while the IOS is just over 1MB. System Menu runs on IOS, that's why it's always installed first.

IOS60patched is an IOS60 file that has been patched, in this case to enable copying of 'pirate' VC/Wiiware games from Wii to SD card.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
