    First game.

So I have just completely installed HBR 4.2 on my black Wii.

Now the new Wii's don't support DVD's so i'll have to use USB.

I'm getting an external HDD next week but I'm going to tryout a game now for the heck of it. I just have some questions though :

-Could anyone get me an example game file (Zelda , new mario bros , Paper mario) (My black Wii is PAL)

-The guide told me to be careful with 4.2 because Preloader hasn't been released yet. What exactly is there to be careful for ?

-Can I still run retail games on the Wii and update them ?

-Is it normal to have a black screen on usb loader when there isn't an USB connected (just did this for testing purposes) ?

-Do I need to format the USB with something special ? I think it was WSF or something

-I heard people talk about a saveloader app or something. Is this required to save on backups ?

And last but not least , I'm using a 2GB USB stick for the moment. Small but it's big enough for my first game I reckon ?

Q1. -Could anyone get me an example game file (Zelda , new mario bros , Paper mario) (My black Wii is PAL)

A1. Google "Wii iso only Thread"

Q2. -The guide told me to be careful with 4.2 because Preloader hasn't been released yet. What exactly is there to be careful for ?

A2. I have preloader on a 4.2 wii and it works great. maybe its an old guide look for a new one.

Q3.-Can I still run retail games on the Wii and update them ?

A3. Yes, you can still run retail games on your wii. Do NOT update EVER
Use wiiscrubber or Wii brick blocker to remove the update. if you get a black screen, you need to update or ios's.

Q4. -Is it normal to have a black screen on usb loader when there isn't an USB connected (just did this for testing purposes) ?

A4. This is normal if you do not have the correct cios to run it search "cios 38 rev 14.

Q5. -Do I need to format the USB with something special ? I think it was WSF or something

A5. yes, you need to format it as WBFS through WBFS Manager.

Q6, -I heard people talk about a saveloader app or something. Is this required to save on backups ?

A7. I have never heard of this before... maybe old content.

Q8. And last but not least , I'm using a 2GB USB stick for the moment. Small but it's big enough for my first game I reckon ?

A8. yes some good wii games will fit on it such as Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

You can definately install preloader onto your 4.2 system, and it is recommended. It is great brick prevention. Just make sure you get the updated hacks.ini for the 4.2 system.

As far as the black screen problem, here is a quote right from messies guide:

Ok seems that a lot of noobs ask me about a black screen at usb loader GX. This may occur in some cases:

1)ARE YOU SURE YOU DID THE ABOVE CORRECTLY? If neither neogamma nor usb loader launch correctly, then steps B adn C were not done.

2)ARE YOU SURE YOUR HDD IS COMPATIBLE WITH WII? Check this here

3)ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT USB PORT? The correct one i the one at the side of the SD card adapter, the outer one, not the inner one.

4)ARE YOU SURE YOU FORMATTED THE HDD WITH WBFS MANAGER? Here it is

5)ARE YOU SURE YOU PARTITIONED THE DRIVE CORRECTLY? If you have more than one partitions, make sure the WBFS one is the first in row, primary and active.

Consult Gen3sf 's guide for usb loader for more details!
At the time it loads, see these for the settings : USBLoaderGX settings

cIOS38r14 will be in the download link of messies guide. It's definately there. Go to Part C of the guide and there are two download links for the cIOS.

As far as preloader, it should be in the download link as well. If not then just search google for "preloader Wii" and it will be the first link that pops up. Just make sure that you get the correct hacks.ini for preloader [I can't stress this enough as most people comment on hacks.ini not being found].

Part D(7) is where you will find everything you need for StartPatch or Preloader, make sure you do the patchedIOS70 before installation.

You sure can, you just need to use a loader. NeoGamma r7/8 is the best, and there is a setting in the loader to force region. There is also Geck OS that some people swear by, so it might be worth it to check both of them out.
