    A couple basic questions...

    Hi all,

First I'd like to say that this is a great site. I know most of the basic info relating to wii and backups, but I feel this is a basic question.

I have firmware 4.1 and a softmod with HBC. I'm not sure what softmod I have. I've been playing games on dvds through the disc channel. I'm in the process of setting up a hdd however and I want to play super smash brothers.

From what I understand the HDD works with cios222/223. I currently have CIOS38 rev 14. I've tried SSBB and as you know it doesn't work properly. apparently it works with cios38 rev 13. I just burned New super mario brothers and its working.

My question is will new super mario brothers work on cios38 rev 13? Is there a way to have them both working at the same time?

Also...I've been following these guides to set up my hdd. Do I need to do all of these?

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...s-usb-hdd.html

How do I know if I have the trucha bug installed? I know I used the DOP file but I don't know what files still need the bug.

    Wiikend hacks: Trucha Bug Restorer

And finally...how do I make a backup to restore in case I mess something up?

    thanks

USB Loading can be acheived with IOS249 as well [thats what I use], and you should update to cIOS38 r14 [the newest one is r15 but I hear some things don't work properly with it]. And just get yourself a hard drive [make sure it's on the compatibility list, you can find that list in my sig] and use WBFS Manager to format the USB HDD.

As far as making a backup to restore your Wii, your gonna wanna look into BOTH preloader and BootMii. Preloader is a great brick prevention and BootMii is your Restore.

As far as the Trucha bug, someone else will have to answer that one for you, lol.

    One more quick question...

Why does the wiihacks guide for the HDD reccomend NFTS and WBFS. I understand that ntfs can access the pc, but when I have them both, does this mean it will detect the harddrive, and I can then put games on the wbfs? I'm cinfused about that...

To tell you the truth, I don't know why thats in there. As long as you have a hard drive and is recognized by windows, then you can just use WBFS Manager to format the whole drive as WBFS. Thats all i did, bought a USB HDD, plugged it in [fat32] then just used WBFS Manager to format it to WBFS.

You can partition the drive to have a WBFS and a fat32 partition so that you can save Wii games as well as HomeBrew on the HDD instead of the SD Card. But WBFS partition must be first partition and set as active.

I have bootmii I just don't know how to use it. I've think thats what I've seen come up but I never know how it does.

Yea I've heard rev 15 is no good and I'v checked and my HDD is good. I just want SSBB to play and apparently doesn't with rev 14.

I see in WBSF manager it will let me format but with no other options. Do I have to format it entirely in wbsf and then make partitions for other types?

I play SSBB with cIOS rev14 loaded into my Wii, so there must be some other underlying problem with the game. Are you sure you have the correct IOS on the Wii the game needs to play.

As far as partitioning your HDD, again I can be no help on that. I just made my entire drive WBFS. I never needed more space for homebrew than my card allows.

Well when I used dvds I would just use the disc channe so I had no idea about using ios when playing games. I just now found out neogamma is to load discs. I've read alot of threads about SSBB and the one where all probelms were resolved is where rev 13 was used instead of 14. I assume I can set the IOS in usbloader when I start using it?

I found out I have to make paritions first, then format them.

    Thanks for your help!

You would have to use something like WiiScrubber to scrub the IOS out of the game. Then use Wad Manager to install the IOS into the Wii. Look in my sig, there is an awesome thread about IOSs and which IOS is used for what Game.

If you come across a game thats not listed, and you use WiiScrubber to find the IOS, then please go back to that thread and comment on your findings. Someone will come along and add it to the list.
