    bootmii as boot2 question

just read the tutorial to softmod wii menu 3.1 to 4.1 numerous times to make sure i got the jist of it. one thing i have read throughout the forums is that with wii menu 4.0 or higher there are or may be issues loading BootMii as boot2, instead it may have to be loaded as an IOS (i saw that under the Bricking FAQ's). Now it also says that to avoid seriously bricking your wii it's best to have BootMii load as boot2 instead of IOS to help with bricking. Now my question is, i just bought a new wii 2 days ago and i checked the version of wii menu and it is 4.0U. has anyone else who has this version had any problems loading BootMii as boot2?

when you first load the software (before u even install anything)

it will show u if bootmii can install as boots2 or ios

    this will show you from

bootmii as boot2 - green text
bootmii as ios - red text

yep the older wiis were more vulnerable as you might suspect to this whereas the newer ones that have system menu 4.0 and up lets just say things were better in the good old days. you're likely to have to install it as ios but be sure to install preloader so if you get a brick you'll still be able to navigate to the homebrew channel and load bootmi.

so is the preloader program a, i guess you'd call it a fix, for that issue with menu 4.0 instead of this boot2?

pre loader is a program that embeds itself to be the first menu that shows up when u boot the wii so if u do brick your wii you can load the homebfew channel and then access bootmii to reinstall the nand backup file you create.

if you can install bootmii as boot2 then u got no real need for pre loader
if you can only install bootmii as ios then you must install pre loader as mentioned above

the simularity to boot2 is that it can be loaded when the normal system menu cannot from when you first power it up. you can use preloader to get to bootmi since bootmi wont load when powering up your wii. it also has other functions most popular is disabling system menu updates that are in games. you will still need bootmi to backup and restore your nand if something goes wrong. it just isn't as easy to load up as it used to be when it was boot2

aahhhh..ok...i see now...i've been reading and reading and some of it is just so confusing. you guys are a BIG help!! appreciate the feedback because is sure do need it...hahaha

actually odd, another question from your reply. you mentioned about "disabling system menu updates that are in games", if you get a game that needs that system menu update will it work still? if it doesn't than are there updates you get to make it work??

occasionally games will need new system files in order to run referred to as ios files. whenever this happens all the top minds get together and attempt to remedy the situation and as soon as the info can be verified it will be posted in these very forums. usually all that is needed is installing an ios file or 2. there is a list of games here and those files it requires if you run into this. NEVER LET THE WII DO AN UPDATE FROM NINTENDO. it will basically undo your modification. post a question here if it comes up or do a search whatever it takes. just dont update lol
