need help with questions on adding an external hard drive

    Hey guys,
I have a wiikey (original) currently installed.
My questions are, can I run a hard drive with just the wiikey? I think I need to add the homebrew channel but not sure, and not sure how with wiikey.
Or do I need to softmod the wii? and can I softmod even though it has a wiikey installed?
I really want to just load games off the hard drive as my son is really rough on cds
    Thanks in advance

You can use a HDD and a Wiikey. You will have to softmod the Wii though.

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

thanks for the fast response, just wanted to make sure I could softmod with the wiikey installed without any problems now or in the future.

you can install the homebrew channel with wiikey by downloading the homebrew channel iso from

Hacks, Loaders, & Utilities | NES Hacks

just download the iso and burn to a disc with imgburn.

Just another dumb question I guess, once I download the iso and add it to my wii, will I be able to play the nsmb?
if not what steps do i need to take.

Also having other troubles, right now, cant access the system menu at all, but I think i googled and found that answer.
If Not I hope I can ask here

Wiihackwii- You probably can't access your system menu because you're following lots of advice that isn't on this site in the guides. DO NOT follow the advice i quoted. Use the link that wiijohn gave you. It works. Get softmodded then worry about nsmb. If you can't access your system menu then you have a whole new set of problems.

Step 1... Do NOT use ANY guides that are not from this site.

Dont worry, I have a brand new 2007 wii, 3.3e version... I have WiKey2 solderless modchipped and i have done softmods from this site, completely awsome and work great.... Make sure ur wii is not update to 4.2 otherwise it will be harder to softmod.

Any question just ask ppl here, give u answer straight away....

agreee, i am a member of one other site, which i am starting to lean away from, as they are all a little crabby lol
Anyways, i have not followed any other guides, to be honest i have yet to try this one, as finding time is almost impossible right now (bunch of kids, opposite shift of wife, xmas and so on.) But i really appreciate the fast help I get here and will be calling this home, and hopefully poping in alot more often.

so new problem is from what i am reading is i have a semi bricked wii, I cannot access the system menu.
going to start ta new thread as to not mess this one up. than i will worry about the homebrew and nsmb (btw i do have the iso downloaded)
