Scrubbing removes things like updates that you dont want (because it could knockout your softmod/chip) and if you trim the game it removes all the dummy data on the disc. For example, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is only about 350MB (or something like that) but the image that you burn to disc is 4.7GB. When you trim a game and make it smaller (proper size) they are easier to store on USB storage devices for direct play.
