    BootMii and Preloader

Just to be on the safe side I wanted to backup the NAND again after I got everything working in Messie's guide (I did the backup step in the guide even though I installed BootMii as an IOS). However, I think I might've screwed something up in the D1) step of the guide, 'cause when I try to launch BootMii now, the screen just turns black and the blue LED in the DVD just keeps blinking. So I suspect it's missing some BootMii files.

    The real question is:
Could I just do step A1) and A2) from the guide to restore BootMii or will this mess up the other stuff I got working (NeoGamma, USB Loader, etc.)?

    About Preloader:
I can't get it working for some reason. My theory is that it can't edit some file because StartPatch already did. Is this something I should worry about or am I just as safe with StartPatch as with Preloader?

Some assistance would be appreciated! I would rather ask than try and get bricked :P

do you still need files from bootmi on the sd card for this to work? i know it writes a file when you install it but since i always leave it there i'm not sure

I don't really know, to be honest. That was the only explanation I could come up with that I was missing some files since I had BootMii up and running during Messie's guide.

well there should be a bootmi folder with 3 files in it. one of which is an .ini file. see if they are there. as many of these guide suggest you to remove the contents of the card to go to the next step this is something that could be lost and needed. i'm not certain of this but if i'm wrong someone will be here to correct me shortly lol

Actually, since I wasn't sure about that step (D1), I think I copied the whole SD card to my computer, so there's a big chance I still got it. But the BootMii is supposed to be in the root of the SD card, right? ..or under the apps folder?

That's what I kinda thought, too! But do you need to have the boot.elf, keys.bin and IOS38-64-v3610.wad in the root as well for the BootMii to work properly? I thought they were just for booting from the SD card in the regular Wii menu.

    Edit:
I just checked my last backup taken from the SD card and that didn't have the boot.elf, but startup.elf and boot.dol instead, also the keys.bin wasn't there.

I do have the 3 files in the bootmii folder (which is located in the root of the SD card), but BootMii still won't start for some reason. Would it be safe to reinstall using step A1) and A2) from the guide to reinstall BootMii or would it mess up things?

Solved it! For some reason, I had 2 different versions of the bootmii folder in each of the backups I've made. The first backup of the bootmii folder was 239 KB meanwhile the second backup I took was 355 KB. So I decided to just try out the first backup I took (no files in the root, just folders) and what do you know, it worked like a charm!

Lesson to be learned: Keep your backups!

Regarding the Preloader issues, any suggestions?

i think the preloader needs the hacks.ini file in the root to function but as i said before i don't remember for certain
