Yea, but sometimes games require you to update, so I don't wanna do anything to my Wii that'll make it un-updatable

Haven't you learned your lesson? The update is how you ended up in this mess. You should never update through nintendo again.

Then...what's the point of my Wii, if I can't play the games?

You can play games, just Nintendo fixed you good with the 4.2 update so only games in your region- if you wait long enough I am sure new firmware will circumvent this annoyance. You chip should be set to block updates, so never update again, you don't need to update the system menu to play new games, 3.2 will play any game, you just need the required ios. As I said previously you can use Gecko Os to try to load your out of region games, and if the black screen on you, disable the update block and load in gecko and let gecko install the missing ios files.

Or just softmod your wii, either way stay away from Nintendo updates as they are only going to continue to attempt to break you backup loading capabilities. Wish it could be simpler, but it is not.
