    How to un-brick? (Wiikey-1, 1.9s, semi-bricked Jap Wii 4.0)

    Hi All,

I have recently semi-bricked my Japanese Wii to 4.0 (I think it is semi-bricked by a US disc 4.0U update that i inserted and updated).

    Anyway, 2 questions:

    1) How to unbrick from its current state?
    2) If I manage to unbrick successfully, any recommendation on how to play backups from now on (e.g. soft mod, usb-loader ... etc?)

    Thanks
    Ed

You could go buy NSMB, I am pretty sure it has 4.1 update on it from what I have read from others. You would want the jap version of course. In the future you should either block updates with your chip, scrub the update off on your pc, or load games with updates using gecko os- it will block the system menu update but prompt to install any needed ios, very cool.

There is another way, but I won't say it yet as I don't know that it will work. But another person should be trying, not from my advise and if it works I will let you know, I would think it would but have not seen it posted so mouth closed. The only fix I have seen for you is to update to a higher system menu that is in your region from disk.

With the suggestion of loading NSMB (Jap vers), I suppose that any new major Wii (Jap Vers) Release will carry the latest system updates, and it will simply un-brick my sem-bricked Jap Wii?

If this is the case, then I could have download any latest Japanese version game backups, would this do the same trick?

If it has the update, yes. It is hard to say if it will or not, there is little rym or reason to it it seams. But I did just see a post of an out of region update like your, but it was to 4.1 via NSMB. Also jap would be the best for new updates. If you download the game can not be scrubbed, it must be a full dvd-5. You can view the updates of your iso with wii scrubber to see what is on it.

I think I can download this game "Sin and Punishment 2 " (Jap vers) very quickly, and I have checked that it has included a compulsory 4.1j firmware update. So I assume by inserting this game into the DVD drive and load should solve my problem?

    Thanks Mauifrog for you help.

I am going to do that later today and see if it works.

Anyway let say if it works and my wii is un-brick, what should I do afterwards to play backups? Use USB loader or what? I haven't been playing my Wii for quite a well, and I was still at the old stage of downloading and burning ISO to disc.

Any recommendations? I do have an newsgroup account and downloading Wii games have been no problem for me.
