my first modded wii was a disaster as well ...i got frustrated and updated to 4.2 offical nintendo update as well even after reading numerous times to NOT do this if at all possible ...ended up buying a 2nd wii (used) and softmodded it with no problems....i definatly feel your pain 6million if you get a solution to this or get it going again i'm intesrsted to read how...also as far as i know once you do a factory nintendo update to 4.2 there is NO WAY to "format" it back to factory defaults b/c nintendo alters the nand in the update ...you might want to try a hard +soft mod (wiikey) and that might get you back up and running ...i wish you the best .....

When you started you could only read disks in your region. Has this changed? You will not be able to load out of region backup from the disk channel, you must use a loader such as neogamma. As for the usb, that can be tricky for some. Try a few different media options as all are not compatable, and make sure you are using the outer usb port.

AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHH 6am and at a standstill
you must use a loader such as neogamma
Is this in addition to our "USB loader GX" which DID work - and ran an external HDD... with several games

Is there no way to get back to how we were ? (downgrade 4.2e etc ?) or are we committed ?

I am not sure what your trouble is. To load a backup you should be able to run backup of in region games from your disk channel- using your chip.
All other backups will need to be launched from a loader, lets stick with usbloader gx, and possible neogamma- both of these will boot from disk and usb, but require a cios, lets say cios38r14 is preferred installed as ios249.

So the usb must be formatted correctly and be compatible with the wii, we will assume it is as it was working before. And it must be plugged into the outer usb port to function.

So here are the questions, you are throwing out many problems at once, so- What happens when you load a dvd from neogamma? What cios is displayed in neogamma? What happens when you load your usb form usbloader gx?

Also, just for some info, download sign check and install it in the apps of your sd card, run from hbc. You will push resets a bunch of times and a signcheck.cvs will be generated and place in the root of your sd-card. This will list all your ios files installed. Attach this file to your next post, and provide as many detailed answers as possible.

Ok, a bit more fiddling reveals...

You were right re the region thing "Sod's law" must have stepped in with the disks I tried... we have quite a few that DO run (Im guessing these were pre USB days, when I patched the ISO's with WIU1.1 !

Found and downloaded "sign check" as requested - file is attached.

USB loader is "GXR633C" and brings up 2 options - cIOS249 and cIOS222 both time out after 30 seconds, having not found the drive.

Not tried "neogamma" yet... not sure what to expect from it, but grand-kids are noisy buggers, so "brat stopped play"

Thanks for all the help so far - please keep it coming

It looks like you have everything you should. Only thing left to do is to try a few different usb drives, until you find one that works. I personally think it may be best to let the wii format the drive for you. So format it as fat32, then insert it into the outer usb port. Load usbloader, if the drive is not detected try to remove it and plug it in again. Also make sure it is compatible before you spend to much time on it.

Also you should be able to load your out of region game disks using neogamma or usbloader gx.

But this drive WAS working 100% before the 4.2E "upgrade" !!! Is it possible this is no longer the case ?

did you give neogamma a try and re-plug the usb drive into the outtermost/bottom (depending on how your wii is sitting) usb port yet like was already said a few times? i upgraded to 4.2u jst to try and cause the same problems your having and i followed that first guide, everything re-installed, my flatmii chip works like it before and neogamma r7/8 run everything else, even the new smb ntsc and pal. so you might give that a shot before you format again. but if those fail then i agree with mauifrog.

Well.... put neogamma on there, and the USB sprang to life, but oddly now we can use LOADERGX as per normal
IE without the need to load neogamma ?

So, somehow I/WE stumbled across the solution

Still, who cares - laddo is over the moon, dads a hero and mums glad the stropping has stopped... RESULT !

Many MANY thanks to all who chipped in...
