    I have the official 4.1u =[

I just bought new super mario bros and it updated my wii to 4.1u officially. I read that these patches are mostly to prevent homebrew/pirating with few actual features put in them. Is it bad that I have the official 4.1u?

I'm curious though as to why I have 4.1u and not 4.2u, I would have thought since this game just came out a day ago, it'd have the newer firmware v4.2 and not 4.1...it says 4.1u in my settings though...which is kind of weird...

Does having the official 4.1u prevent me from softmodding my wii? also, what happens when a new version comes out again and I'm softmodded? and will I be able to play future copied games like the final fantasy that's coming out next month if I softmod? o.0

You can softmod your wii. Use the guide below for your firmware. In the future do not every update from a disk again as it will kill your softmods. You will be able to play all future games, but you may have to update your ios's manually instead of the disk.

How do you not update from disks ever again? I didn't pay attention when I put the mario disk in, but doesn't it just update automaticly and tell you not to turn off your system? and if you turn it off during the update it bricks your wii right? or I'm misinformed =/

It really seems like theres no multiplayer online for the wii, which is the only reason I'm really thinking about modding it. Are you still able to play online without nintendo knowing you modded your wii though if theres a multiplayer game in the future? o.o

When you follow that guide to completion, you will have preloader installed which has hacks that block disk updates.

Also I am very sure that you have to click ok to update from the disk, no 100% but very sure. I would not know as I block updates.

yup, get preloader and set it to block disck updates, works well for my NSMB with 4.1.
Also u can soft mod 4.2 but it has less stuff, i dont think USB harddrive works w/ 4.2 but not sure.

Because 4.2 has no advantages. It's only purpose is to kill hombrew and cios. Why would anyone recommend it. Read the very top of the 4.2 guide below, it says do not upgrade.

No, I've had a softmodded 4.0/4.1 Wii for quite some time without a chip and I run USB Loader, Emulators, Injected .wads, etc... All I did was follow the tutorials, go for it man! (Just never take a Ninty update again).
