I did it 50/50 and it didn't work. It read the drive once, gave me a taste of zero load times... then gave me the finger never to work again. Maybe I got a bum drive? I am not sure if that is it because it works fine with my pc.

Edit, I am going to return it and grab the same thing and see if I have any luck. lol, my wife is so mad at me for being frustrated and my kids are scared of me.

Sofia, after a whole day's efforts I found out what was wrong.

I put a usb thumb drive in the back of my wii and the stupid thing booted up instantly. I returned my black WD in for the Silver at the store and sure enough...booted up instantly. It was my HD, just didn't work for some reason. That's that.

Lesson, if you have a thumb drive give it a shot if a drive isn't working. Will save you a whole day's worth of mess.

yea i suspected it was the hdd that's why i kept suggesting compatibility. i guess it was supposed to be if it worked in your pc and not your wii after all.........

Another thing to note and Im not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread is that the drive should be put in the usb slot to the far right when looking at the back of the wii and if your usb harddrive has 2 male usb plugs the first one (coming from the drive) is the data one and this goes in the far right. Try your drive with just this one. If you cant hear it spinning and trying to load up plug the other one in.

I had this problem and had the plugs reversed at the start and thought I had an incompatible drive (old 40gig WD from a old laptop).
