newbie with blank homebrew channel - no apps folder- 3.4E

    hey folks

    I have lost it lol

have read and read, i have loaded and reloaded hackmii installer 0.6 using the banner exploit but
at best I get a homebrew channel thats blank (bubbles only) whilst popping them is fun thats all the joy I have got.

    its a 3.4E ser. LAH

hackmii installer loads and reports I can only load as bootmii as an IOS and not boot2

    the homebrew can be loaded
    DvDX can be loaded

    and says all successful !!

reboot and enter the homebrew channel but no applications

I have no apps folder (clearly no applications either or wad folder on SD root and therefor bubbles only, that much i have figure out on my own.

should i just start making my own folders?
have thought about upgrading to 4.2 firmware and atleast trying that scene.?

have read about unsoftmodable 3.4's also
this machine should be a brick by now.....after my attemps

Looks like you have answered your own question. No apps on sd card, means no apps. There are many apps and you can find many of them at wiibrew.org. Do not upgrade to 4.2, it is no good. Take a look at the 3.1-4.1 guide below to fully softmod your wii.

You can make your own folder, but let it be known that only if you put applications [such as neogamma] into a folder called app, will you be able to see the program.

should be like this....SD - apps [folder]
    wad [folder]

inside the apps folder there should be seperate folders for each application. Take Neogamma for example, you should have a folder [name neogamma for thoroughness ] then inside that folder is usually a boot.dol [if it's named anything else line Neogamma_r7.boot, it should be renamed to boot.dol] Then you can load that app by selecting it from the Homebrew menu.

You may also want to try a nice little app called HomeBrew Browser. And it does pretty much what the name entails, you can browse a nice selection of apps that will download the selected app and install it accordingly [folders will be made in the correct way for the HomeBrew Channel can read it].

thank you both very very much, still a newbie at all this obviously.

yep, I was just installing the 'homebrew channel' and no applets or wads.
think my biggest problem was after reading heaps of different guides and some from yesteryear..twilight hacks and alike and getting my self confused..

I followed the guide (mostly) on muifrogs sig. and all is good, exept for turning my homebrew upside down lol, reinstalling the HB channel only at the end fixed that and its all good..the HB channel autoupadated and I am very impressed.

    I dont own a wii, am doing this for a mate(no profit,fun only) ...

but there is no doubt in my mind nintendo will be getting cash out of me because of this web-site..and all the coders who made this possible.

thank you both again, now I have half a handle on the file structure..
heaps more to learn, and heaps more newbie questions to ask ..

just to add, I was confused by the last few steps like the many who have assked before me...I will install the iso60 patched wad, then use the FW4.1 updater...

but my big question is why ??
everything works at the moment (USB loader etc), so is this to prevent games from auto updating the 3.4 FW at a later date ?

and pre-loader step is installed both as a failsafe backdoor way in, and too install/prevent disc updates..?

do games "backed up" to a USB external have all the disc updates removed from them ?

when I get this all up and running I guess its logical to use bootmii to back up everything.

You need to update to 4.1, because preloader does not support 3.4.
Preloader is very useful in use and if anything should go wrong. It will block updates, do some region free and many other things. But best is you can boot your wii directly to your favorite app, say a usb loader or homebrew channel. And if you brick and preloader survives you can use it to fix your wii.

thanks again bloke, clears alot up for me...
will do some heavy reading for a week..as far as i can see life without preloader is not an option..only a fool would run with out it.

this site is awesome. moding and learning about this is way more fun than the wii games themselves.
