Question Burning Q - No DVD; Random Qs Too

Hi, I'm a bit new to this hacking scene and I've been reading random posts on anything related to it and it all just dazzles me. I've borrowed a Sony DVD with Smash bros in it and it worked fine, loaner has mod chip, and I used softmod with a 3.3U. However, when I tried to play Rabbids Go Home on a DVD burned on Verbtaim (both were DVD-R sony's and this) through NeoGamma DVD Launch with everything defaulted, it just say No DVD when it's clearly in and not reversed or what not. So what am I doing wrong?

Also, how does USB Loader work? I don't understand the whole USB Loader GX and WBFS. I've read that it loads from USB drives and HDD's. I'm planning to purchase a WD MyBook 1TB soon and format it to WBFS since the one at home is in used and I wouldn't want to format it. Does it also work with USB drives I assume? Assuming it's higher than 5G. Do I need extra files besides those 2 files on Dogegg's list.

So here's what I did to my wii. It was never touched for a while until I heard about the NSMB game and I decided to hack it. It was defaulted at 3.3U version and I used Dogegg's guide "NEW 3.1-4.1 Softmod" and followed everything on it and did boot2 and etc. Only thing I didn't do was update my system menu and didn't install Preloader, not knowing what it do but assuming blocks disc updates and couldn't anyways with 3.3U.

So one last set of questions. Can I still update my system to 4.2U while it's softmodded without any chances of brick? And then hack it with the 4.2 guide by messie? Or can I just leave it be and buy a mod chip to install onto my system and there wouldn't be any interference or update bricks or what not? Or should I just update it to 4.2U and buy a mod chip regardless due to it's faster compability, less bricking, and easier access?

Thank you and sorry for the massive questions

one important advice but not able to cover all ur questions:
avoid update to 4.2 at this moment !!

btw, buy the latest modchip [see Forum home page], install BootMii as boot2 with nand backup are the 2 right things to do now.

Yeah, I'd assume that but I'm stuck at 3.3U and I can't load preloader according to the guide. And I installed BootMii as boot2 and made a nand backup as well. I'm just mainly stuck at why the NeoGamma couldn't read my dvd. It didn't report an error - just No Dvd found or some sort of message relating to that. I checked with my PC and the iso file is in there as well.

Well what is seems is that you just dragged the ISO file to a burning program and burned the Actual ISO to the DVD. Google for IMGBurn, once that is installed find where the ISO is and use the program to burn the ISO to disk. And you do not HAVE to buy a modchip, i've never bought a modchip for my Wii, and everything runs smooth as silk

I used nero to burn my iso files to a vert DVD-r I thought imgburn would be the same but I'll try that later tonight. Thanks. Btw do I have to format the disc or anything? They're all factory defaulted.

the defaults should be fine. if you have Nero installed then just double clicking on the ISO should automatically open up nero to start the burn. The only thing you have to make sure of is that the ISO is Joliet 9660

If your computer recognizes the backup disc then you burned it wrong because your computer should not be able to recognize a Wii disc or backup disc, you should not be able to see the ISO on the disc. You probably made a data disc. Like said above, IMGburn is a good choice, just install imgburn, right click on the game ISO and select burn with imgburn. Nero will work, I have used Nero 7.

Thanks you two, apparently I was burning wrong with Creator Basic and Nero lol. But ImgBurn works wonders.
