    super newb!! update or not??

So i recently purchased a virgin unmodded wii form a friend and i was trying to get on the internet with it. But when i went to log on it told me i had to update before I could use the internet so i declined. My question is should i updateit now to go on the internet now or wait till after softmod then try and do it?? I am worried that if i update now i wont be able to softmod as easily.
    what should I do??
any input would totally be helpful.

oh yeah an i am on version 4.2u the serial number lu35.

Never update with official Nintendo Updates, but your Wii is on the latest firmware. I still wouldn't update though.

ok thats no problem but what about getting on the internet. If i cant do it now how will i be able to do it after i softmod?? i almost feel like it would be a better idea to update now so i can get on the internet then mod the wii.

    any more input

I would just mod now, the tutorial on this site for 4.2U worked flawlessly for me. I also don't think updating would hurt either since nintendo is still on 4.2u/j/e to my knowledge. The guide bypasses all the ways nintendo is trying to stop modding so I really think you're good no matter what but like I said, I would just mod now without updating since that's what worked for me.

Yea, what travis said, just do the mods now. Then do a softmod update of the shop channel, that will stop the prompt your are getting to update. Even though you are on 4.2 now, if you update you will still be on 4.2, as far as I know, the newest update is for the shop channel, which you can do manually without the Nintendo update.

Stomp is right, the highest update is 4.2, were you running a game and that popped up cause it might be the game trying to load an IOS that your system doesn't have yet. Update doesn't necessarily mean system menu, at least to my knowledge.

There is another official Nintendo update, even if you have 4.2 installed. So far, it is just the shop channel, and maybe a newer IOS61. Find a post from Shadowsonic, that's who posted the new version shop channel and IOS61 installer, the one I downloaded anyways.

But you are right about updates not having a new system menu included. When I bought Guitar Hero Metallica (when it was new), I did a disc update, and I am still on 3.2U system menu. I did check around though, before accepting the update.

EDIT - I found it for you, shop channel and IOS61 installer, LOOK HERE.
