    LU64 and up units

OK guys, I just purchased a new unit that has a serial number that falls into that LU64 and greater category.(LU72) I notice that in some of the posted there seem to be some concerns about soft modding these units. The guides seems to be straight forward but all of the warnings has me a little nervous about attempting the mod.

I don't want a 200 dollar brick , so i would like a little advise on modding these units.

You can softmod. The warnings came during a transition period. Earlier Wiis could be downgraded during a softmod, the later Wiis could not. The two softmod tutorials currently recommended and used do not have such a step. Just follow the tutorial appropriate for your Wii:

If your Wii is 3.1-4.1 follow this tutorial: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html. If you have updated to 4.2, then this guide is the one to follow: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/24630-full-hacking-guide-4-2-system-menus.html.

Thanks for the quick response. I do have one more question though. My unit is still in the box, and I was wondering if there is a way to tell what version you have without opening the box ?

I don't think so. Nintendo is less than consistent in issuing the serial number and system menus. Serial Numbers tend to correlate best with the drive chip, but less with the system menu version.
