Please, please can people talk english to me!!!
Hey, Im very new to the hacking scene and i have no idea about any of the jargon terms used in this site, basically I started to get into the idea of hacking because I want to play Manhunt 2 on the wii uncensored, bottom line is I have managed to do that using a programme on Homebrew called Gecko OS and some kind of cheat code. I have searched this site but I cannot find an idiots guide to hacking please can someone answer a few questions:
1. What is a Cios, Wad, preloader and wad manager all completely go over my head? I havent got a clue what they mean or do
2. Bricking - I am worried now that I have installed homebrew I may suffer this bricking thing i have disconnected my internet connection from my wii to ensure that nintendo dont update my firmware or anything, how does bricking happen am i safe using the homebrew browser? i dont intend to play backups all I want to do is use the cheat manager on the gecko OS and play NTSC games on my PAL wii which apparantly ocarina and gecko allow is this safe to do??? BTW my system firmware is 3.4 and its staying that way!! despite nintendos constant annoying emails telling me to upgrade.
3. Just if anyone could give me a complete idiots guide to the jargon terms I would be grateful, just remember people, you were a newbie once!!! thanks guys!!

Hello and welcome to the wiihacks community.
I know you are anxious to get started; but, there are a few items to cover before you post your questions or start doing anything to your Wii.
Make sure you read the rules of this site. There are a number of tutorials and guides available to assist you. Many of our new members find the tutorials for softmodding any 3.1-4.1 Wii and any 4.2 Wii particularly useful. Make sure to either look through the site tutorials and guides or use the search function before asking questions. While the moderators, staff, and members of this community are willing to help you, some effort on your part to read, research, and follow the rules is expected. To get the best response to your question(s), post in the associated forum areas. This is very important as inappropriate posting could get you restricted to the reading room or even banned. If, after looking at the tutorials and trying to search, you still need help or just want to post a very basic type of question, go to the http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-newbie-corner/.
Wiihacks also has a chat room on irc://irc.uicn/wiihacks. After reading the irc rules, please feel free to join in the light-hearted chats and activities. While any irc client can connect to #wiihacks on the UICN, ChatZilla, for those with Mozilla’s Firefox browser, is easy to install and use.
If this site and our members have provided substantive help, you can Donate to the forum and get a nice banner under your name and gain access to the donator forums.
Start your reading with this introductory guide, I think you will find it helpful: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...g-wii-faq.html. Enjoy your stay with us.
Cheers for that. Is it safe to play NTSC games on my pal wii using gecko or oracina? thanks.
yes, as long as they are scrubbed (i.e. updates removed from the ISO's)
also use preloader to stop updates as well - this bit below is from the New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii guide;
Select 'system hacks' in the Preloader menu, and enable the hacks that you want - 'skip disc update check' and the region free ones are all you need. Select 'save settings' and wait for confirmation message to display 'settings saved'. Press B to go back, and enter Settings. Set 'Autoboot: System Menu' using D-Pad, then select save settings. Press B to return to main Preloader menu.
